Variety International is reporting that up to sixteen artists who were part of Somos El Mundo, including Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Celia Cruz, Luis Fonsi, Chayanne, and David Archuleta, have signed on for a two-week South American concert tour. Proceeds are slated to go to charity.
We’ve also heard through the mango vine that David might sing Prayer of the Children in Spanish. In discussing the news about the tour announcement this morning, one of the our close-to-the-family fans exclaimed, “maybe that’s why he was translating Prayer of the Children… He consulted with his mom and his abuelita about some of the words.” Would there be a dry eye in the house if David sang Oración de los niños?
The following dates and locations were released, but no word yet on ticket availability.
06.15 – Explanada Estadio Monumental – Lima, Peru
06.17 – Museu Nacional – Brasilia, Brazil
06.20 – Pepsi On Stage – Porto Alegre, Brazil
06.21 – Master Hall – Curitiba, Brazil
06.23 – Credicard Hall – São Paulo, Brazil
06.24 – Citibank Hall – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
06.27 – Movistar Arena – Santiago, Chile
06.29 – Luna Park – Buenos Aires, Argentina
07.01 – Parque Jaime Duque – Bogota, Columbia
Personally, I haven’t been this excited about an Archu-announcement in a long time. Something happens when David sings in Spanish, when he connects with his Latino heritage, and everyone feels it — fans and non-fans alike. Contigo en la Distancia was easily the pinnacle performance of the past year (for me, anyway), and the thought of David doing an entire program in the vein, well — it may only be April, but I will be an ODD Fool until June!

I didn’t realize how badly the Archu-drought was affecting me, until I realized how excited I was about this news!
What a great honor for David, that he was invited to be part of this wonderful event is so exciting. And, what a talented bunch he will be performing with. Yep, Rascal, David’s transformation into the music is more evident when he performs in Spanish. But, please, David dear, don’t forsake us English speakers. I’m still dying to hear your new music. 😀
Please, please say that this isn’t an April Fools joke. But Celia Cruz, she actually passed 6-7 years ago of a brain tumor. Could the tour be correct but the names of some of the performing artists is incorrect?
Oh, Rascal……LOL
Happy April Fool’s Day.
Sadly Celia Cruz died July 16, 2003. She left quite a following. Her music was enjoyed all over the world by the old and by the young as she was always tapping into fresh material that resonated with both sets of fans. She had some kind of rhythm coursing through her and it was thrilling to see her performances.
I wish David would be able to do such a tour but I actually wonder if it is still a little early as he has not actually recorded anything in Spanish YET. I have always wished that he would as he seems to reach deep and connect in the most beautifully passionate way.
Rascal-Are you up to something here? lol
Dear Rascal,
*Smack*
There, I feel much better now!
LOL
“heard through the mango vine” LOL
This is maravilloso! It was inevitable that David would do a tour in Latin America. I remember too that David is a huge admirer of Celia Cruz. But call me selfish -- if I paid to see David I wouldn’t want 15 other artists to have to sit through. I prefer my David pure and unadulterated! Still, I’d do it for charity! 🙂
Here is Celia Cruz’s “La Vida Es Un Carnaval”:
Oh that´s just cruel.
Hey, ronald! What a way to start the day! Love “La Vida Es Un Carnaval”. Dance to that and you are done with the cardio workout. lol
Also, love the words to this song. Life is to be lived passionately and if you think life is cruel, think to yourself you will never be alone as God is with you. “Manos arriba”-hands up in the air. HaHA
rascal, your name is not rascal for nothin’!
Yay! Tour! I’ll have to get my Spanish up to speed. Who’s going with me??? Who will be my concert buddy???
And those smoldering looks! Be still my heart lol!
Liz -- you know I’ll be your concert buddy! 🙂
I caught my breath when I saw the headline! Please say it ain’t April Fools day. No! We live in hope for an annoucement like this.
Dear Rascal, you are mean! Happy April Fool’s Day for you too!
I´m a brazilian girl and you didn´t even allow me to daydream about Archie coming to Brazil, as you gave us the “tips” like dead singer, fake venue (Brasilia)…
You know Mango tree is not a climbing or trailing plant, right?
Unfortunately, I think the day Archie is coming to Brazil is a distant dream… Adam Lambert commented he wants to come and party, maybe he is the first Idol to come, since his label wants to promote him internationally…
I think basically only major artists who have tons of public come here, like Michael Jackson, Madonna, U2, Coldplay, Beyoncé etc… although Jason Mrz came recently, and after teens Jonas Brothers, now even Demi Lovato is coming!!! Oh, how I would love if Archie could also come with her… or, (preferably) without her (lol)!!!
Hey, excuse me you all for my poor English, we speak Portuguese here, and we learn English the same way you Americans learn Spanish, not too many people can speak/read/write in English language. I can read a little Spanish and a little English, but writing is sooo more difficult!
Joyhigh, welcome! I am hopeful though that David will someday visit Latin America, particularly after a Spanish album comes out. I think it will ride on him having a lot of sales down there, and having a well-organized fanbase won’t hurt either! I remember how some promoters for David in Asia were in contact with a fansite. I don’t know if Azoff/Jive have connections out there, but if so they’re bound to be putting out some feelers 🙂
Rascal,
That was just… mean, mean, mean!!! 🙂
joyhigh#16,
I hope you get the opportunity to hear David sing at a “real” venue in Brazil! The VOICE in a live setting is something everyone should see!
Marlie -- #14 Concert buddies FTW!
joyhigh #16 Welcome! I too hope that David will come your way some day soon.
BTW -- your written English is impeccable!
joyhigh #16 -- welcome to TDC. LOL it would take April Fools for you to delurk eh? I have a very strong feeling that Brazil will be one of David’s international destination some time soon. Am by no means psychic. But David acts on matters that are dear to him. His hispanic ties is one of them, don’t you think so? So don’t be forlorn.
But to fast track it, what you guys in Brazil (and neighboring countries) need to do is create the demand for it. Write the label, ask for his guesting in some important event in Brazil, be visible in radio promo,MTV requests, etc… that’s what the fans in Manila did. And soon enough, an enterprising group saw the opportunity to pounce on supplying the market’s demand. It was by no means cheap LOL but it was sooooooooooo worth it!
As angelofda said, hearing him live is a must-experience 🙂

🙂
I work at night and surf the web after work. So, it was not April 1st until AFTER I woke up the next morning. All right, lame excuse, you got me Rascal, I swallowed it hook, line and sinker. 😛 and was totally bummed when I found out it wasn’t true. Kinda did some thinking about it and realized why I was so easily hooked (other than the wonderful and totally believable write up) is because I wanted so badly for it to be true. David was introduced to the world two years ago, and still I don’t see the respect he deserves. Where TPTB is pushing so hard for a boorish, egocentric charlatan, who disses his religion & homeland and suggests people should try drugs to “find themselves.” and Taylor Swift is declared the “Voice of a Generation”, I ask myself why. I don’t have the musical training to explain what it is that David can do with a song,(I’ll leave that to Ronald 😀 ) but even a nescient person like me can tell the difference between Michelangelo and a street corner artist.
After the AMAs and when David was asked to be part of Somos El Mundo, it seemed to me that those artists were appreciating David (heck, he was given 3 solos!) I felt they saw what I had seen. So seeing the headlines, my heart rejoiced! David is in!….uh…no. 🙁
I know how tough the music business is and how lucky an artist must be to make it. And, I understand that many extremely talented artists are never appreciated, never accepted and are never heard, I just don’t want one of them to be David. Pax
cutter12 -- David’s day will come. Have no doubt!!! 🙂
BTW -- I love the French tradition at my French/American school. April 1st is “poisson d’avril.” The kids make small cut-outs of a fish and tape it to a friend’s back as a joke. It’s nonsensical and fun!
Hey TDC,
Just wanted to wish everyone here a beautiful Easter weekend.
I sure am excited about the book tour news. Even if I cannot attend any, I am still excited at the prospect of forward movement in this archudrought. Hopefully the book release will entail a few spots on TV. If it comes together with the release of a single…. then even better 🙂
Okay, who wants to meet in NYC June 1? I am so there. I don’t care if it’s cheesy, if the line is a mile long, if there are nothing but children in the line, I want to go.
🙂
Oh! Do you think he might perform somewhere the night before? What else does he have to do in the NYC area that night? Okay, he might want to just go to the theater or to dinner or write some more songs. LOL
Cutter12, I feel ya! Still, remember though that David now has sold almost a total of a million albums and he is making an album that he seems to having a lot of input in! He is able to reach a lot more people than most, and he is not simply singing to other people’s tunes 🙂 Archulife is good, even if it’s a bit thin in this drought! Even famous artists have droughts like these! It’s just that the internet makes us used to all news all the time.
Idol Chatter provides the first line of David’s book:
“I have no idea why I’m doing this, but I know I need to be doing it for some reason.”
I wonder what’s his last line 🙂
I’ve been cruisin’ through old videos (what’s new Marlie?) I love this:
Testing this:
Oh, my -- you can post a larger view of the video by using the youtube embed code here (see above posting). Hee hee!
EMBE- I was reading on the previous article that you liked the song Let Me Go. I also love it. It is my favorite more upbeat song along with Crush and ZG. I just love the attitude or slight edge without going overboard. I wish it had been on the cd. I love love love it. My daughter and I listen to it all the time when we want to have fun driving down the road lol.
