RT @annyo84: Seing all of them together on stage and hearing him reach that note with the choir was something that no words can describe
Now I know what I want for Christmas next year.
I luckily received a ticket for Thursday’s performance, and let me tell you- It was perfect! David singing was glorious. And the acoustics were spot on. David, the orchestra and the choir blended so well together. Nothing overpowered the others. And Michael York’s performance was full of verve and the inflections were Perfect.
A beautiful night filled with majestic music, fun dance and stunning performances -- yep, the DVD copy of this show is what I want for Christmas next year.
me, too! me, too! Cutter
And to think that was just the dress rehearsal. Be afraid. be very afraid of the actual show tomorrow and on weekends
So proud of him. So happy for him.
Bluesky’s comment about tonight’s MOTAB experience bears repeating!
“Imagine a cup full to the brim with the most delicious drink that exists. Now imagine that every time you take a sip, it refills completely. In fact, it refills faster than you can drink it or even appreciate it’s full texture, flavor and nourishment. It exists just to offer itself to you. To get inside and become a good part of you in whatsoever way you may need it.”

Out and about: Archuleta with the choir…
David Archuleta & the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
SHOW OF THE WEEK » Singer-songwriter, “American Idol” finalist and Murray native David Archuleta will join the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square for their annual Christmas concerts. In an interview, Archuleta (who turns 20 on Dec. 28) said he began rehearsing with the choir on Tuesday and admitted being star-struck. He grew up listening to “Music and the Spoken Word” broadcasts and daydreaming about how “cool” it would be to sing in the choir, especially for the Christmas shows. Earlier this year, when Archuleta was invited to perform for the Christmas concerts, “there was a little bit of time when I freaked out,” he said. And then when he rehearsed with the 360 singers for the first time, he expressed his awe this way: “Wow.”
“You feel so small,” he added. “It was humbling.”
Archuleta says his biggest challenge will be to complement all those other voices and instruments,” and to avoid being “self-indulgent.” He considers this one of the highlights of a singing career that has only just begun. After tonight’s performance, he will hold a signing at the downtown Deseret Book (45 W. South Temple) from about 9:30 to 11 p.m., to promote his latest album, “The Other Side of Down.”
When • Tonight and Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m.; mini-concert after Sunday’s 9:30 a.m. broadcast of “Music and the Spoken Word.”
Where • Conference Center, 60 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City
Tickets • Free, but sold out. A standby line will form at the North Gate on Temple Square at 6 p.m. for the evening performances, and at 7:30 a.m. for the Sunday broadcast.
WEEEE!!! someone was able to get some video! Man he was killing those glory notes all night long. My favorite was “Gesu Bambino”
where he is just singing notes in succession, it was wonderful. I hope someone was able to capture that one. Another great one was the last song of the night. That power note that literally drove everyone out of their seat. WOW!
OK, I found this comment from SLTribune — take heed those attending tomorrow’s event:
My son had tickets to this concert tonight, something he was looking forward to for months. He received parking passes with the tickets and arrived at the designated parking lot an hour before the concert. The lot was full. He and his wife drove around SLC for a half an hour before they parked up near the capitol and walked down to the Conference Center. They got in a long line (designated for ticket holders) and after 15 minutes in line they announced “sorry, the Conference Center is full.” They were not able to attend the concert.
If you have tickets for the Friday or Saturday concerts make sure you arrive in SLC at least two hours in advance! That way you won’t waste $20 on gas and be disappointed.
That’s too bad about those people who didn’t get to go. Here’s a suggestion for parking. Park at the Triad Center on 300 west and North Temple Which is two blocks away and an easy walk to the Conference Center. There is an open lot on the east side of the street that will fill up fast, but on the west side its covered parking that everyone seems to ignore. Parking is free for both.

LP33 interview
Re-posting these 2 comments from the previous thread --
From MARLIE
Word on the street: David hit a glory note at the MoTab concert and got a Standing Ovation. 🙂
To which CUTTER replied
Yes, Marlie, It was pretty much instantaneous. David was singing at the very end and goes in for the big finish (along with the orchestra and choir) and everyone popped out of their seats. (including me) And the standing O lasted for a very looong time. 🙂
Michael York was on the stage at the time also, and both David & he took a bow, then Michael clapped David on the back and gestured to the audience like saying this is all for you.
Though Michael was fantastic too.
Cutter -- Thanks so much for posting your note -- GAH! to have been there!
Los Pastores a Belen -- those stealth videographers are going on my gift list to Santa -- they deserve whatever they want!
JR -- I love that interview from LP33. He’s just becoming so articulate and mature. What a cutie!
I hope there is more video! (Please, God, more video)
Looking mighty fine

MomJulee’s recap
David was not one speck nervous. He was so happy and so in his element. Loving every minute. He was sparkling. He was glowing. He was lit from within. He was gorgeous. The tux fit him like a glove. Sleeves perfect. Lines perfect.THIS IS WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE!! Thank you Motab wardrobe. Green not red, the perfect choice. His previous stylist should retreat in shame. The Archuleta always looks good. But he should always look this perfect and impeccable. His tux started the idiot grin I had on my face that did not leave the whole night.
He is such an incredible artist. I’d love to know if he was purposely holding back at the beginning so as to make his later glory moments that much more effective. After he sang silent night, Annie and I heaved a huge sigh AT EXACTLY THE SAME TIME! Then we started grinning and laughing again. Grown men were crying during SN. It was perfection. When he left and the choir went into their number, I thought “Who are all these people and what are they doing on the stage?” Archustupor at its finest.
Spanish song was brilliant!! He was so happy singing it. He was animated and smiling and his eyes sparkling. Loved when he talked about his Latinos!
I can’t begin to describe Angels from the Realms. Michael York had just finished reading “And sudddenly there was an ANGEL standing in the midst of them” or whatever and then the lights came on David and he started singing. His voice just cut through the entire choir. Honestly, a lot of artists get drowned out by this number but he was so clear and beautiful. I don’t know why I was not prepared for that. David was completely confused as usual by the standing o. The crowd went wild. I think Michael York took it upon himself to guide David through the adulation. I thought he was going to guide David’s mike to his mouth to get him to sing the reprise. I want to analyze that last modulation on GLO-O-O-RI-A!! And then the waving!!! May he always do his cute little wave no matter how epic the circumstances!!! Heard Lupe and Grandpa were in tears.
The Spirit brings JOY. Last night was truly JOYFUL AND TRIUMPHANT!! It was beyond wonderful to hear @onerichsong’s arrrangement of SN note for note. I have to say D managed to make the choir pale by comparison just a few times. I wanted to stand up and shout SEE? SEE WHY WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH??? I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF THIS GLORIOUS YOUNG MAN FROM THE BEGINNING!!!
JR -- Oh, my, he is one handsome guy there, isn’t he. Not that he isn’t just as handsome and jeans and a t-shirt, but still, that tux makes him look very sophisticated. 😉
Video, but no sound. However, he looks good!
Oh, that recap by momjulee gave me the chills it was so exciting and heartfelt.
From Bluesky
Day 2, 8 am
They say God is in the details. So let me share a couple of details with you: DAs hands.
Rolling Stone made comments about DAs right arm. Being the student/teacher of movement that I am, noticing DAs hands and arms and how he uses or does not use them directly relates (in my world of work) with how he processes language. The right arm connects to the language brain and we all know of DAs struggles with language. So when his movements with his hands and arms (which I believe he consciously works on) dramatically change, I notice right away.
Usually, his left hand is more limber, flexible, all fingers acting separately, while his right is a bit more stiff with the fingers more like he is wearing a mitten (all the fingers acting as one), and performing the same basic movement that his right arm performs. (I know, I know, I am totally a geek. Sorry. Please read other posts if you are bored. I tend to bring out the glassy-eyed look on peeps faces. *why are you even telling me this?* But I promise, I will finally get to the point in the end. ^_^)
Although he totally works on his movements and has made TONS of progress, the “arm-in-a-sling” right arm and hand have always seemed to be there as a strong foundation. He even seemed to be conscious of changing hands with the mic: knowing he needs to do it and wanting to do it, but conscious of it.
Now about the concert last night. It says something major (and by major I mean life-changing) when DA gets on the stage (in front of a full orchestra, a professional 350 member choir and 21,000 people) and has full, descriptive, articulate movement with his right arm and hand. It was like he was painting as a master painter would.
His hands – both sides – sculpted, conducted, shaped, soothed, drew-out, emoted, enhanced, spoke, flavored and emphasized. It was as if he were drawing or painting on our hearts. Physically writing the message in the air for us to imbibe, to breathe in and become part of. He was every inch a professional in every moment and every movement.
His hands, those thoroughbreds masquerading as appendages, were so innately and naturally expressive, conducting every emotion, meaning and turn of musical phrase, that they could have had their own opera.
It was as if the hall and the people were his home, finally found and comfortable: “Ah, now I have room! Now I can be comfortably myself! Now I can move and be moved. The canvas is finally big enough to paint/show you what I have always wanted to show you.”
For me at least DA, you painted God. May your canvases ever match your heart.
Janey’s recap
David, Randy had it right the he second time he heard you, when he said you were born to do exactly what you are doing. You buddy, are a singer’s singer and it was never more evident than during those 90 angelic moments last night.
With confidence and ease, he gloriously rose to the occasion. All 21,000 in the audience focused on David. He glowed, he illuminated, he lit up the stage like no other time in his 19 years. You could see it in the faces of the choir behind him; you could feel it in the audience. He must have felt their combined admiration for him. I know I did. It seemed as if the entire choir and orchestra were there to support him. He acknowledged and embraced their contributions not by showboating his talents, but complimenting them with control and purpose. It was a perfect blend of mutual admiration and professional courtesy.
Whatever it took, however it happened, last night was the culmination of hard work, raw talent, gratefulness and a life lived fully. Don’t let those almost 20 years kid you. He’s packed in a while lot of living in that time. You can’t give a performance like he did last night without working like crazy to get there, without understating the magnitude of it, without feeling appreciation for the opportunity.
David, please embrace this side if you. Feel the joy you bring us. It’s your voice and spirit that make us do the crazy things we do. I promise you, if you ever decide to make an album in the near future, you know, the serious side, not your last year as a teenager side, the world will be at your doorstep, and not just for a blade of grass from your lawn.
Pecked out letter by letter at 5:51 on my iPhone in a bathroom of The Plaza hotel, sitting on the side of the tub while my roommate is sound asleep.
I’m loving the recaps. He has apparently outdone himself. And I loved the analysis of his hand movement by Bluesky. I’m so hoping for more videos.

Thanks to pattycake4 — DA singing THE CAT & THE MOUSE CAROL -- yipee!!
LYRICS:
The Cat & the Mouse Carol aka Cat Christmas Carol (Ted Hutchinson)
Said the cat to the mouse, in their dark little house,
In that stable so long ago,
“I am wondering why that bright star in the sky
Is shining upon us down below.”
CHORUS: And the night skies rang, as the angels sang,
When Love came down to the earth;
And the night skies rang, as the angels sang,
When the Baby King had his birth.
Said the mouse to the cat, as in wonder they sat,
And they saw Mary’s face filled with joy,
“Perhaps that star we can see is to tell you and me,
Of the coming of this precious little boy.”
Sleepy shepherds they saw as they crept through the door
And they brought little gifts to the child.
As they gazed with love on the child from above,
Mary turned to the shepherds and smiled.
So they happily sat, little mouse, little cat,
As they heard Mary singing to her son,
As she cradles with care, little Jesus so fair,
This baby, the Lord’s chosen one.
LYRICS: Los Pasteros a Belen (Eager Shepherds on their Way)
Los pastores a belén corren presurosos
(Eager shepherds on their way to the Betlehem stable)
Llevan de tanto correr los zapatos rotos
(Running onward wth great haste o the infant’s cradle)
Hay hay hay que alegres van
(Ay, ay, ay, with joy they run)
Hay hay hay si volverán
(Ay, ay, ay, back home they’ll come)
Con la pan pan pan, con la pan
(With a tap, tap, tap, with the tap)
Con la pandereta y las castañuelas
(With the tambourine tap & the castanet snap!)
Un pastor se tropezó a media vereda
(A pastor stumbled in the middle of the path)
Y un borreguito grito:¡este aquí se queda!
(And a little lamb cry: This is it, it’s here!)
Hay hay hay que alegres van
(Ay, ay, ay, with joy they run)
Hay hay hay si volverán
(Ay, ay, ay, back home they’ll come)
Con la pan pan pan, con la pan
(With a tap, tap, tap, with the tap)
Con la pandereta y las castañuelas
(With the tambourine tap & the castanet snap!)
David Archuleta says he’s humbled to perform with Mormon Tabernacle Choir
SALT LAKE CITY — Teen idol David Archuleta grew up listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
“They’re still one of my most favorites on iTunes,” he said. “So to be here, performing with them, is like, ‘Wow! Is this really happening?’ ”
For long-time actor and narrator Michael York, it has “already been an extraordinary experience. I’ve been to Salt Lake before, but as an outsider, outside the buildings, outside the experience. To now be an insider, to belong as part of the experience — it’s more than entertainment. There’s a feeling of fellowship, of worship. It has all magically come together. I’m much looking forward to the next three days.”
Archuleta and York were speaking at a press conference Friday morning in connection with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s annual Christmas concert.
Thursday night’s dress rehearsal “was magnificent,” said choir president Mac Christensen, “probably the greatest opening night we’ve ever had.” And it’s just going to get better, he said. “David was out of this world. And Michael — what a pro.”
The choir is “delighted to have one of our own featured,” choir director Mack Wilberg said of Archuleta. “And distinguished actor Michael York brings a wealth of experience to the stage and a stature to storytelling.”
Archuleta talked about the humbling feeling he has in being a part of the concert. “When you grow up having so much respect and admiration for something, it doesn’t seem like you would ever be there. It was the same with ‘America Idol.’ I didn’t think that would ever happen.”
Sometimes he wonders, he said, about why so much is happening to him at such a young age. “I feel the Lord has allowed me to be here at this time for a reason. The teen years are so hard. It’s cool to be able to reach out to teens.”
He feels a humble responsibility to be a good example, to let them see a positive, uplifting side to life. “I owe so much to my family and friends, to the role models I’ve had. I’ve learned to hang on to the simple, important things and remember the blessings the Lord has given me.”
It’s an amazing experience, he said, “to be given an opportunity to share with a lot of people something that is important to you.”

DA & Michael York Join w/ MoTab Choir for 2010 Christmas Concert
He sounds so good. He looks so good.
Most impt, he looks so happy. His family must be literally beaming w/ pride
That last set of clips gives an idea of the quality that will be produced on the DVD next fall. I don’t know if I can wait that long LOL
One thing I noticed, yes David is simply lit up inside with this epic honor of singing w/ MoTab but just like in the AI Finale, you can clearly see the pressure in David’s face.
He has the tendency to thin out. He just know how to carry the pressure well, thanks to his very professional nature and divinely-inspired demeanor. Remember AI Finale, when he looked thinner than just the previous week? Compare his face here just a couple of days ago.
He takes this opportunity with sch import. A face of a serious artist. A face of a responsible person.
So happy for him.
MARLIE -- I heard there is a petition that the DVD be released early. I think someone from MoTab said they are considering Sept as the earliest but I don’t think that would still be early enough for archies…
I think MoTab will have to deal with something totally unexpected for this year’s concert -- hahahahaha. Beware the archies on a mission
JR -- “Beware the archies on a mission.” Too funny!

JR -- Thanks for gathering up all these recaps and videos. I so loved the performance last night and seeing and reading all these helps keep the memories so alive.
My pleasure Cutter. You guys are so lucky to be able to see. Aside from the chill-inducing performance of David, the prospect of seeing so many archies in such an auspicious event is definitely a deal breaker.
