It is no secret that at certain times in certain quarters, certain factions of the fan base can allow their hormones to get the best of them and express in commentary certain, shall we say, observations and interests regarding David. Physical appeal is a significant and legitimate aspect of many popular performers, and when it accompanies truly remarkable talent, it is virtually impossible to discount the power of the total, well, package.
It would be senseless and unnatural to make a pretense of avoiding the obvious sensuality that attractive performers embody, but in public commentary tone matters. Tone — that somewhat elusive synthesis of language, attitude and intent — makes the difference between a laugh and a cringe, and the line between them is not only delicate but often subject to opposing and equally legitimate interpretation. That’s why it makes sense to err on the side of caution. A good rule of thumb for evaluating tone might be this: If it’s a wink, it’s probably okay; if it smacks of anything like heavy breathing, reconsider.
Some argue that because David himself is especially modest and not currently selecting material or making displays of overt sensuality (at least not consciously), his fans ought to conform to what may seem like a narrower set of standards than what might be considered culturally common. I think this argument has merit, and fans would do well to consider it. But by the same token, an artist has no more right to expect his audience to change their morays on his behalf, than the public would expect him to change on theirs. Respect goes both ways.
Others suggest that objectification has no place whatsoever in the appreciation of an artist like David, whose central power is acknowledged to be a deep emotional, even spiritual connection between the performer and the audience. I would argue that it is impossible to remove objectification from adoration, even if that adoration is purely platonic. There exists in any fan-artist paradigm an endemic aspect of objectification. The problem, it seems to me, occurs when the point of the exercise becomes objectification itself, rather than acknowledging that it is merely part of a greater whole. Surely there have been comment sequences on many fan sites wherein the point of the exercise seemed suddenly to veer quite exclusively in a less wholesome direction, but I think this kind of thing needs to be seen in context with the larger trajectory of a fan’s participation and expression. For every comment made about David’s indisputably handsome thighs, it is reasonable to assume that there were hundreds of comments made by the same fan about David’s inarguably miraculous voice. Context matters, perspective counts.
Is there disrespect involved in the occasional appreciation of his beauty as a member of the human species? In general I think not, although it depends on how and in what context it is expressed. I have found precious few examples of fan commentary that I felt sunk to the level of creepy prurience. The vast majority of it is bawdy, silly hilarity that breaks out over a particularly appealing photograph or a series of creative innuendos. This kind of repartee is admittedly not for everyone, but neither does it stand out as a categorical offense against common decency or against David himself. These episodes might not be the best examples of what a serious fan might have to offer, but not every facet of what is appealing about David exists in the high-minded realm of spirituality, either. Although there is arguably a spiritual dimension to almost everything David sings, he doesn’t confine his material to church music. He sings about love and attraction, and these topics have a decidedly sensual aspect to them.
For me, respecting David means taking him seriously as an artist. I dare say a far greater number of David’s fans are guilty of transgressing this particular tenet than any other. Squealing about how cute he is may not be overtly sensual, but it is nevertheless a focus on the physical. And the all-too common practice of using childish language, infantile pet names, and blatant nannying can be just as cringe-worthy as a tactlessΒ reference to sex appeal. In my view, this puerile reduction compromises his ability to be taken seriously considerably more than admiring how his body moves. If treating David like a sex symbol is at one extreme on the respect meter, then coddling him like a precious child is on the other, and both are equally indictable.
Fans must make their own decisions, of course, about where they feel comfortable participating. But I would urge those who have differing views about what is appropriate to resist allowing their judgment to extend to other fans, and especially to the sites that facilitate open discussion. Due to the resources needed for aggressive comment moderation, the categories for such interference are commonly limited to things like hate speech and personal attacks. Each site has different guidelines about what is considered appropriate and inappropriate from a topic standpoint, so it makes sense to review those guidelines periodically.
Most important, however, is to remember that administrators in a fan site community are generous volunteers, not professional editors, publishers, or gatekeepers. It is up to everyone to take responsibility for the tone and tenor of the comment threads, and for the community to police itself. Blaming a site for what one may consider the bad behavior of a handful of members is tantamount to killing the messenger; just because a site may contain mentions of a certain nature doesn’t mean that that’s what the site is about. If you encounter something you don’t like, participate. Make a reasoned, rational, compelling argument, leave personal judgment aside, and help turn the direction of the commentary onto a new path.
Sensuality is a rich and wonderful part of life. The fact that David is so modest and inexperienced about such things not only sets him apart from his professional peers, it can’t help but make these aspects of his persona that much more intriguing. It is exciting to contemplate what a wellspring of artistic opportunity David has in these dimensions of the human experience, and what might ensue when he starts to mine them. He has barely scratched the surface, when other artists of his ilk have already plumbed the depths and scaled the heights. I do think we need to take our cues from David in this regard. But anyone who believes that he hasn’t already started letting out some rope on this, whether intentionally or not, is not watching very closely…

rascal: I am grateful for the clarification of the boundaries of the site from TDC leadership.
That it is essentially a wide-open community blog with minimal rules of participation has been a missing piece of my understanding.
To Jello -- Please accept my apologies for differing with you. Until now I did not have the understanding that Boxes vs. Briefs is an appropriate topic for discussion here. As a commenter it would only have been appropriate on my part to say I disagreed with the topic, not that the topic was “off limits.”
To HG -- An apology to you also. I periodically disagreed with topics you brought up. As a commenter the only appropriate stance would have been “I don’t agree with what you said” and nothing more than that.
To TDC leadership -- I also apologize to each of you for having expectations that exceeded the above. The clarification is extremely helpful. Thanks for all your hard work.
Great opportunity for discussion.
As an admin, with the power of the delete button, or the ability to hold a comment in moderation, I need to first say that I fear censorship more than almost any other issue this topic might present. The few instances when a comment has been held in moderation are when the admin team here felt that the comment was a personal attack on another commenter (see Terms & Conditions) or otherwise breached the policies we have for the site. Even when we specifically had heated discussions about the discussion, we didn’t hold comments in moderation.
A more recent thread brought out a lot of comments from many of us that may be considered “inappropriate” by some readers. To me, there were a lot of funny, ODD-inspired comments and I enjoyed almost every one of them. A few probably teetered on the edge of the slippery slope, but to me, none of them quite slid down it. Others may differ in their opinion.
That thread followed a particularly stressful time for David’s fans as we struggled over the discussion of David’s personal life and worried for him about it as well. The hilarity thread released a bit of that tension and brought the community together in focus on David the performer.
As I was reading Rascal’s article, it brought to mind the “heavy breather” that showed up on Twitter a while back and I remembered how the fan base was practically called to arms over it. Commenters who often engage in discussions of Davids physical beauty and yes, his runner’s legs (is that better than “thighs”?), would have hopped on a plane and formed a human barrier around David when he flew to NC if they hadn’t been assured that he was accompanied by Ray.
At the same time, we admire David’s physical beauty, his dance moves, his head swivels, all part of the persona of “David on Stage” that contribute to the statements made all across the fanbase that “You have to see him perform live to REALLY appreciate him.”
So, sure, he elicits responses from our 18-year-old inner fangirls, but that is part of being a pop singer, a rock star, if you will, in 2009. If anyone thinks the fans of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley or any other popular singer from the last century didn’t elicit those kind of responses from fans, you need to go back and watch the videos of their performances. And then you can wonder what made the girls swoon and faint during those performances -- I don’t think it was entirely “the voice.”
PS: Nice pictures, Rascal π
Very cool, clarifying post. I myself have been wondering if I’ve been crossing a line. My instincts were telling me that, ahem, some things I’ve done lately were all in good fun. And then I posted Angelica’s sexy and fabulous Sade vid over at IDF and had a few teenage girls reacting with “Um, okay” kind of reactions, and I had some moments of doubt about whether I should rope myself in.
Then I realized how disingenuous it all was -- all the screaming about how cute and adorable David is, as if they didn’t have some attraction to him that also could possibly be objectifying. Being treated with a whiff of false moralism irked me not a little.
There seems to be an unhealthy hypocrisy when it comes to how our culture deals with issues of attraction and sexuality, that seems to lead to two extreme trends: a superficial, moralistic conformity about sexuality coupled with flights of amoral, excessive indulgence.
There’s a very insightful scene from South Park in which a tyrannical Mickey Mouse refuses to let the Jonas Brothers to remove their purity rings. The reason? “If we’re going to sell sex to little girls, we can’t look like we’re selling sex to little girls!”
Starts at 2:00 -- rel="nofollow ugc">
It angers me how young women are socialized into being ashamed and secretive about their own sexuality.
Brillant and very thought provoking.
Good morning everyone! Hope you all had a great 4th of July! π
So, in reading Rascal’s latest, I can’t help but exclaim: “See what happens when you take a break from TDC? You miss out on all the fun and controversy!”
What just happened that I wasn’t paying attention to? I can, of course, only guess.
“If treating David like a sex symbol is at one extreme on the respect meter, then coddling him like a precious child is on the other, and both are equally indictable.”
This statement is interesting insofar as I’m left to ponder: this is “indictable” to whom?
Really, the sex symbol vs. precious child perception is not about David. It’s about his fans. Always has been. Just like a lot of the Michael Jackson spectacle was never about the man himself (apart from his performances, the spectacle was media-driven and fan-based), so too have many of these conversations been about the fans and their perception of the public image that is David (I think that bears repeating).
So, I’m not sure what it is that needs indictment, to be honest. The only people having a problem with discussions of David’s sensuality are those particular fans who blush at any discussions of sensuality. To which I say: if you don’t like a discussion, don’t participate or go elsewhere.
The same is true for certain fans who are so not feeling the innocent “precious child” discussions. But, they usually just yawn at such conversations and stay away. It’s a particular judgmental segment that wants to impose their will on other fans. I sometimes get bored with both discussions -- his hotness vs. his cuteness -- and take a break. Sometimes, I’m in the mood to participate.
I guess the issue, to me, is less about whether this is about “respecting David” and more about whether or not we, as Davids’ fans, can respect each other. I think we all know that has not always been the case.
Well I am not eloquent but will say David checks all the boxes and then some when he performs, he is full sensory overload. He checks a few more boxes when he is tweeting, being interviewed and the few other glimpses we get as a fan community of him at events. Never have I been drawn to any performer like I am drawn to him. His performances skills grow by leaps and bounds and if I was a 12 year old girl I would squeal with joy as that would be my context. However, since I am old enough to be his mom, I will just say, he checks every box and the back of the paper is filled with essays running off the edges. Have a wonderful day everyone!
Ronaldsf, thanks sooooo much for sharing that South Park video! π
ROFLMAO!!!
And this is why David needs to stay away from Mickey Mouse! ha!
hi all….
I do not agree that this forum is, with the exception of hate speech and personal attacks, a free for all. I believe it is quite the contrary. I believe that commenters here demonstrate restraint in their commentary on a daily basisβ¦just not always. I further believe that commenters here often moderate each other and that many topics have been shut down by commenters. In addition, I donβt think that there is anything wrong with blog sites that are free for alls, nor do I think there is anything wrong with web sites that are heavily moderatedβ¦.to each his own. It is a matter of determining which type of site you are blogging on so you know what to expect. Expectations often guide behavior.
I have been a member of this community as a silent lurker, then as an instigating commenter, and now as a writer and admin. My involvement has evolved, as has my perspective. In the real world I, like all of us, wear many hats. Sometimes I behave as the playful entertainer of the crowd and sometimes as the responsible professional. I am actually always both. Which manifestation is brought to the surface depends on the circumstances. It is a question of boundaries. For most situations, time and place matter.
It is my hope that this site remains a venue that values the free expression of thought and ideas within a community of respect. Since it is July 4th weekend I feel I can quote the big guys and not seem out of place, βthat freedom, to be meaningful in an organized society must consist of an amalgam of hierarchy of freedoms and restraints.β I believe that all members of a free community bear the responsibility for supporting it. Freedom does not mean anarchy, and the more diverse the community the more challenging it is to determine appropriate boundaries.
ronald and HG- have you seen the rest of that South Park episode?…it get’s better…….. π
No, Happy, I haven’t seen the rest of that episode.
*Goes to You Tube in search of video.*
Happy,
I don’t find any one particular site to be more or less culpable for enabling the kind of freeform discussion that can at times make questionable detours. Why, even FOD was for a time issuing “warnings” on various images of David; I don’t think the implication was that he was hitting a particularly fine musical note in the picture in question… It is important to be clear about the fact that we are not just talking about TDC.
I do agree, as I said in the piece, that the community is responsible for maintaining its own restraint. Due to the impracticality of either drafting or enforcing extensive and detailed codes of conduct, a site is by and large limited to articulating a fairly minimal bottom line (i.e., hate speech and personal attacks). Community standards must therefore be set and maintained — with the expectation that they will also evolve and change — by the community itself. Just because the codes are minimal doesn’t mean that the format encourages anarchy.
Great article Rascal.
Respecting David is complicated. We fans are more or less conscious of why we are fans, and the reasons probably shift and change from week to week. For many of us, David brings out a new side, or new feelings, or has awakened something in us that we are still discovering. For many of us, even being a fan at all is a new and unsettling experience. Blogging and commenting might be something we’ve never done before David. My point is this: we are mostly feeling our way here, making mistakes and correcting as we go, both in regards to understanding our own emotions and to expressing them publicly. These facts give me enormous patience with the variety of viewpoints on this blog.
This is a public forum and we are a wide-ranging community, with lots of different views and ways of expressing ourselves. That’s fabulous. It all adds to the liveliness and creativity of our site. There are those of us who get really excited about polls and want to support David that way. There are those of us who are knowledgeable about the business side of David’s career and love to discuss that in depth. There are those of us who focus on what clothes David is wearing, and there are those of us who focus on the more serious and spiritual aspects of David’s artistry. It’s all good. I choose to engage with what interests me and to read and pass over those topics that don’t. It has been an extremely rare occasion when I’ve been offended by a comment. I can think of only three instances, one on notingDavid where vulgar language was used in reference to David, and two instances on TDC when hateful speech was used. In each case, those comments were deleted and the commenters were held in moderation.
I think we do a pretty good job here. For me, this is an adult place to admire, to gush, to analyze all things David, and to support each other in our lovely obsession. Happy said it well: “It is my hope that this site remains a venue that values the free expression of thought and ideas within a community of respect.” That darn question of “tone” will always be controversial, because we each have different resonating rods for determining what is appropriate and what is offensive. For myself, I love the witty repartee that occasionally breaks out here. I see it as a playful game that uses the persona of David as our subject. The fact that we all love and respect David in a multiplicity of ways is in no way diminished by the witty banter. At TDC we can be sensual or silly, or we can get all serious and spiritual. The world of David contains it all, so why shouldn’t we express it all?
Patienceβ¦ varietyβ¦ respectβ¦
It’s all good!
A lovely writing davidfanLIZ, placing the purpose and workings of such a site as this in concise and understanding order.
rascal, I appreciate your article and want above all else for the greatest of respect to be shown by us to David, in every aspect of his life.
As commenters, have we been disrespectful over the last while? If that is so, then perhaps it should be considered.
SB
well said davidfanLiz! While I may visit other sites this is the only one I comment on. I have always had great confidence in the folks who come here to moderate themselves and keep all things in perspective. Rarely have I been uncomfortable and never have I felt the need to jump in and object. I think that my affection for the folks here comes from meeting many of them and realizing they are fun, bright, caring and devoted fans of an amazing young man that is our focus. While I doubt David ever reads what happens here, I do keep in the back of my mind what might offend or upset him. That being said, some of the really funny stuff delights me. If the JoBro can laugh at that South Park, which I found screamingly funny, then perphaps David would find us goofy too. (Pardon the Disney pun.)
I am totally enjoying the ride here and have every confidence we’ll all carry on in a manner that will make most everyone happy. If they’re not, there are certainly lots of other fan sites to jump on to.
rascal, needed and appreciated. Thank you.
The immense love and admiration and respect we have here for David as a person and as an artist, in my mind, is never questioned.
Is it playful banter or disrespect; is it righteousness or the ultimate respect? I appreciate the reminder and the opportunity to consider both.
JackRyan, I only have a minute, but just wanted to thank you for fixing the video I posted on the previous thread. I’ve made note of the simple instructions so that If/when I post one again, I’ll know how (finally). π
Busy weekend and just popped in to see what’s up at TDC and whew rascal..those photos!!
Then I read your post and thought to myself, Uh-oh..better not say aloud my thoughts about those photos! But dang, rascal..you make it so hard when your choice of photos accompanying your “respectful” post are so…well you know. π
But seriously, I get everyone’s point and I love it here, even though there have been times when EVEN I have had to step back for a while, but I always come back..like a bad penny, (or a half a penny..you have to read David’s tweets to get that).
As open-minded as I like to think I am, there are certain subjects I choose to refrain from talking about in regards to David, so I just don’t. But his beauty and sensuality, as portrayed in the photos rascal teased us with is a matter of fact. There is no denying it. David can choose to hide it. He himself chooses not to, IMO. A person would have to be blind not to see IT. He poses for the photos. David is not stupid. For us to sit here and think he would be offended if we say his photos are gorgeous or “hot”..or that his performances are sexy or sensual and leave us weak. I just think it’s ludicrous!
No one is pushing him to do what he does on stage. No one forces him to pose as he does in his photo shoots. David, imo, has a genius instinct for what sells, for how to portray himself in the way he does. And that’s what he does, he’s portraying his celebrity. Doesn’t mean he thinks of himself as sexy & sensual. But he has to know he can look it when it counts, on stage & in photos. Then he goes back to being himself..just David. If we think David would be offended if he knew or read some of the discussions about his looks and other attributes, HE most certainly would CHANGE his persona on stage & his professional photos. Do we really think he is not aware of all the gushing and swooning over him? Do we really think David gets offended or can we be realistic and believe he may be flattered to know we appreciate his beauty and the feelings we get from his performances. He may not understand it but he keeps doing it because it works for him and it works for us. You don’t have to agree with me..and that Dear Friends, is why I like it here. π
The Voice is foremost of course, and I would still be a fan if all David did was stand on stage and sang. But he gave us these additional gifts. The Voice, the beauty, and the knock out sensual performances to go with The Voice. I don’t see that David will be changing anytime soon, as I said it’s working beautifully for him. The genius of David is that he knows what he’s doing every step of the way. And doing it in an enigmatic way. Keeps us on out toes. He is one of a kind. Heck with all the comparisons..there is no other like David.
Peace & see ya’ll later!
Rascal, thanks for your provocative, and, if I may, overdue article. Allow me to chime in with some commentary on this subject.
When it comes to David’s sensuality, it seems to me that David has been saying, in effect “Who are you going to believe, me, or your own eyes.” I have always had tremendous respect for David regarding his honesty concerning the “all important” subject of his sexuality and his experience (or lack of it). It is a subject that the media has not let him get away from, and he has answered all questions on the subject with honesty and integrity. This has caused David to be seen , in some quarters, as “too good to be true”, which means there must be something else going on, whether there is or not.
David is already the “great, great singer” that Dolly Parton said he could become. Once he is given the opportunity to sing truly great music, he will become even greater. He is also physically beautiful and, perish the thought, scaldingly sexy. The fact that he has closen not to be “open for business” in that area is his choice and his right.
David is a public figure in America in 2009. That means that he will be talked about, ogled over, scrutinized, and be the focus of all kinds of gossip, real and imagined. He knows this and accepts it. David is strong, not weak. He needs to be respected, not protected. Show Biz is a sleazy business, and being in it is a sword that cuts both ways.David has great instincts. He handles the slings and arrows that come his way in ways that minimizes their impact. Look at how he dealt with the recent incident with his father. Had he handled it poorly, it would not have had the short shelf life that it did.
TDC is a fan site that takes David seriously, both as a unique and gifted artist, and as a special young man who is growing up right before our dazzled eyes. Because we are “older”, references to David’s sensuality appear immodest or downright
scandalous. To the naysayers, I say, “lighten up”. David is pure joy, and his sensuality is part of that joy. It takes nothing away from his magnificent singing and heart bursting warmth and kindness to also experience him as “hot” or sexy. Let’s face it, the kid has it all going on. We’re all smart enough, witty enough, and articulate enough to share our feelings about any and all aspects of David in ways that would not make a sailor blush, even one with ODD.
New art from Rabid http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_TjZW37rmTi4/SlDnNSG5xDI/AAAAAAAAAUc/BHKkh_1ovcg/s1600-h/david3d.jpg
SF -- “The genius of David is that he knows what heβs doing every step of the way. And doing it in an enigmatic way. Keeps us on out toes. He is one of a kind. Heck with all the comparisons..there is no other like David.”
…bar none!
Great points, SF and Bliss. Me, personally, I’m looking forward to the day when David OWNS his sexiness up front. Then, such “debates” will cease to be relevant … after we’ve all been SLAYED. π
I want to clarify one thing..When David performs on stage, I don’t mean to say it’s all an “act”. I believe he FEELS the music and it manifests in a very sensual or deep-feeling emotional performance. What I do think is if he is offended in any way of how we describe how he makes us feel or how he looks on stage, he can and would at least TRY to tone down those performances. Instead of going where he goes, he could stay here with us and just sing. He chooses not to. THANK GOD!! (sorry David!).
Later, bye!
Thanks, Prd9601! Rabid’s David art is the best!
I want a T-shirt of this! π
Hello everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July.

Racasl, this is a very timely post. On discussing the various beautiful aspects of David, I let my conscience be my guide. Since I can’t control what other do or say, if a topic is over the line for me, I bow out.
I hope everyone have a Happy Sunday (Please Go Vote)
OOPS, just realized my error--RASCAL
SF, although I cannot “know” what David thinks, I feel confident that he is not offended in any way by being thought of as “sexy” or “hot”. Just because he chooses not be sexually active does not mean that he is not sexual or that he does not enjoy how people react to him. David does not sing “religious” music, and is very much a comtemporary pop singer in the secular world. He toured with Mcfly in the UK, a group given to sexual raunchiness on stage. The photos in this article clearly showcase David’s natural appeal. David’s persona on stage these days waves “bye-bye” to American idol, and clearly encourages the audience to embrace the “new” David.
David is a multi and mega talented performer and singer. Little did Simon know when, after hearing him sing “Heaven”, and said to David “You have so many things going for you” that he was making the understatement of the decade.
David is a runaway train that has left the station. Those of us who are already on board can relax and enjoy the ride. The rest wlll have to catch up to a train that is going at break neck speed.
Rascal -- great post. Pictures -- VERY distracting! haha
SF, Bliss, HG -- I agree totally!!
I’m just glad I’m on board with David from his beginning to witness this transformation. What a ride, Bliss!
Lazy afternoon. Looking at old AI vids of David meeting fans. These videos at snarkies reminded me of how much I enjoy watching
his interaction with his fans. He has Charisma with a capital C!
Goboywonder -- Archie is now in 3rd place:
http://tweeterwall.mallplace.com/tw/worldwide/best-male-solo-artist
I cannot, in my wildest dreams, imagine a hot pop star dropping to the floor to sign a fan’s Chuck’s, just because he was asked to. Not sure he’d stil be doing this but David always seems to honor any reasonable request.
Bliss.. I’m on the train too and it’s an Express.
Bliss, SF and HG -- you all make such wonderful yet valid points. Unfortunalely, (and I say this with a huge grin in my face)in addition to being blessed with a beautiful voice, David is also a physically attractive individual. If it would only stop there we would be content, but what makes this hit a homerun out of the ballpark,as is becoming evident with each new round of tours -- David is blossoming into a physically attractive performer as well.
The slightly-built person with the mega talent we first saw on AI has morphed into a lean, mean, take no prisoners, leave us all in an archustupor wrung dry for days, no rest until you book another concert you never planned on, performing machine.
As HG rightly said -- the day he begins to OWN his sexiness will push him to yet another level of appeal. What will we say then if we already have problems coming to grips with what we are witnessing right now? (I inlcude myself in this group)
The excitement that surrounds David’s growth as a singer/performer/artiste is appealing as all heck as compared with an Adam Lambert who has come to us almost fully formed as an entertainer. The beautiful thing about David is this is not even an act. As SF said -- by simply allowing himself to connect 100 percent with music lyrically and rythmically, a natural sensuousness emerges without too much effort. When this collides with a growth in personal experiences -- Watch Out World!
River -- I nearly died when David signed her shoe!!
Joymus and to think David is just beginning…he’s not even halfway to where he’s going to be? Hmmmmmm. Like you said Watch out World!!
River and Pabuckie -- David does “ignoring” very well when it suits him. I too was pleasantly surprided when he fulfilled this request. Emmiegirl -- thanx for the vids.
David DID CRACK UP when she asked if he could sign her FACE.
Pabuckie, David is back in 2nd place on the BEST SOLO ARTIST poll after Adam. He in 1st place on the MR. USA poll, however, there are now less than 10K points between he and Adam. While this may seem like a big difference, I watched Adam fans put in over 15K in less than 24 hours. I would really hate for David to come in 2nd after he has had such a big lead over Adam.
BTW, can anyone explain how to use the cursor on a Blackberry. I’m trying to use my daughter’s who has always used the pan mode and we can’t seem to the cursor to enter.
Please vote for David, you can use the computer and cell phone.
I’ve always thought David was amazingly adept at deflecting things he doesn’t want to do or talk about. It’s a real talent, done with that seemingly innocent demeanor but he’s better than teflon.
Hi again everyone!
David’s getting ready to on in a little while in Grand Prairie TX. Hope all goes well for David in Demi’s home base. Knock ’em
their socks off David!!
Here’s a photo of David acting silly at one of the VIP’s..
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Uw_M6ZbloQw/SlESzGsZ5FI/AAAAAAAAOXY/x4HwKSXcEUQ/s800/silly+david
It was very sweet of David to sign those girls shoes, but hopefully, others will not follow suit. Especially since those girls were wearing SHORTS. But he didn’t seem uncomfortable at all! π
River #38, I too, have always thought that is one of David’s strengths.
I’m silly! I meant..Knock ’em dead and Rock their socks off!
David!!
Goboywonder -- Wow, sorry to say but Adam has David beat in that solo artist award by like 20,000 points!! Gheese!
Goboywonder: There is something fishy going on with those Tweet voting contests -- no one has been able to post 2000 votes per hour since they began, until the last 48 hours when someone figure out how to hack or power vote for Adam.
Doesn’t matter -- David is already Mr. Universe Tweeter π
Pabuckie, I understand that, it’s the Mr. USA poll that I am concerned about. David is in 1st place there but at the rate Adam’s fans are voting, David will end up in 2nd place there too before midnight.
What has happened to David’s Fanatic Fans?
marlie, apparently Adam’s fans discovered that you can vote using you cell phone as well as the computer. it could very well be legit.
Speaking of Demi and her home base…hasn’t Disney created live characters instead of cartoons with Demi, Selena, Miley and others? Disney dresses them up, makes movies basically for children, has them record their songs, provide for them a band and then takes them to the cities for the children to see in awe and wonderment. The strain for a 16 year old to try to sing a full set for her concert, is the tell tale sign that they are grasping for the stars with such young performers.
David is so far removed from their concepts of solo artists that I will be glad in one way to see this tour over. David will soon be writing his new music and taking to his own stage or that of an established artist…again thankfully.
SB
I agree with you SB. The only consolation from all this is media buzz as the AI tour takes to the road, potential new fans as many Demi fans reportedly unaware of his music other than Crush are plesantly surprised at just how good he is, and capital for David’s future projects.
The beautiful thing about David is this is not even an act. As SF said -- by simply allowing himself to connect 100 percent with music lyrically and rythmically, a natural sensuousness emerges without too much effort.
Amen Joymus and SF!
I guess reflecting on some of the things I appreciate from site, which has now become my only real stop in Archuworld, is sharing this journey is better than the best novel….The main character continues to grow and surprise, with more layers than Tiramasu…The cast of characters folloing the main character are witty, charming, persuasive, sometimes a tad orney, outspoken and always challanging. We share a kindred love, but this wonderful place provides the best music going anywhere, beautiful photography, funny poems, creative videos, education and a bit of wonderful escapism to boot.
joymus, there certainly are different way of reaching goals and it does keep him in the limelight. He is a wonderfully patient person.
SB
There is a channel on youtube that says it is Walt Disney SG (Singapore) with the MOST high quality videos of David’s performances on American idol that i have ever seen (except for perhaps XFactor’s vids). Interesting that Disney would post David videos, if in fact it is really Disney.
Here is Shop Around…you can get to the rest from there.
Sounds like they are loving David in Grand Prairie! Seems he is wearing the same red-white-blue plaid shirt he wore in Houston, unless he has more than one…which would not be surprising! π All that plaid is starting to make me dizzy!
I know it’s early still where David is (8:45) and he won’t be going to bed for several hours yet, but I have get to bed early now as work beckons very early tomorrow! So I will say…
Good night all. And for David..
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when heβs weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, Davidβs forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that itβs always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong during this time in the summer tour with Demi. Keep David and his companions safe as they journey across this land of ours. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good nightβs sleep & sweet dreams on the road. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! If you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!
Great find marlie! Thanks!
If it is Disney, I hope their interest in him relays into something along the lines of, oh say, the voice of the main character in one of their animated movies!
Marlie -- That is so strange. They were posted just today. I wonder why? These were from over a year ago!
Very clear and fun to watch as always.
betsy: It doesn’t look like the channel has been up that long, either -- June 21st this year.
Brought over, for your convenience:
FINALLY itβs hereβ¦the opportunity for us to express our desire in writing to have David sing the full version of U2βs song, βOneβ. Now is our chance to write a little sumthinβ sumthinβ to David about why we want him to sing the full version of the song. The letters will be presented at an upcoming show on the summer tour. Hopefully we will be pleasantly rewarded for our efforts and hear David sing the full song this summer!

Bebereader and Abrra
I am loving the “One” letters.
Hi Everyone! Just got in from David’s show in Grand Prairie. I was completely blown away. I had been afraid I might feel a tiny bit disappointed after having watched so many videos, etc. Dumb me. Whst’s the superlative of gobsmacked? Archusmacked? He was amazing tonight. Barriers was unbelievably intense. There was a fairly good crowd there, but I rather thought it might sell out since it was Demi’s hometown. I heard lots of people in the lobby talking about him, and I saw quite a few people with David T-shirts. He was definitely well and warmly received. My ears are still ringing from the shrieks. I’m rambling. Sorry. He was superb tonight!
Thank you Bebereader and Abrra for the “One” campaign. I believe it was Freo who wrote a few threads back about arists, fans, and technology. It’s great to have so many means of communicating with artists.
Lets see, there’s a campgain for “One”, one for “Apologize”, next, Desperate.
Oh. Sorry for spamming, but the ending to My Hands tonight was just exquisite. Honestly, I was so dumbfounded listening to him I could not clap in time with everyone else. That’s very sad…
xaris: Thanks for the post about the concert tonight. Archusmacked…..yup!
Hi Guys!
Interesting about the Disney posting of those new videos. I think whatever contract David has may in fact be some sort of arrangement between Jive and Disney…
*David was able to help Ramiele get an audition with Disney after the AI tour
*”Crush” was featured in the teen show Lincoln Heights which airs on ABC Family (network is owned by Disney)
*Hannah Montana song and appearance (episode practically written for him)
To be honest I actually think Disney’s Hollywood Records may be a better home for David than Jive -- they have some other artists that are a bit more organic sounding like Plain White Tee’s
Has anyone heard anything more about the Christmas Album? I was thinking it would be great if one of the new Christmas songs written for David is very contemporary and actually gets airplay on Pop and Hot AC during the holidays..I really hope Jive gets him some good promo for this album. I’m sure it will be great, but the public needs to know it exists!
Matlie: Thanks for that HD channel… just watched Shop Around, Imagine and America. Wow, David is great HD…wish I wish upon a star his concerts could be filmed and posted in HD…and/or sold and/or played every night on the news as I have proposed before to well, myself and my dog, to help bring about world peace. Ok, maybe I just a tad extreme, but if you can start with some joy, and the right frame of mind you never know.
Thanks for the update Xaris… I am so happy for you.
xaris, your excitement leaves me with no choice…waiting up for videos!
raelovingangels….you crack me up.
Hi Rae,
I have always felt that filming David in concert should be the next step. My wish is for him to do one the caliber of a PBS special with full orchestra for some numbers. PBS helped Josh Groban become a household name.
Xaris -- Please consider telling us more after you have rested up won’t you? It never gets old hearing how David did in concert.
raelovingangels, lol. There is no such thing as “extreme” when it comes to him.
Sorry about your name…Marlie7. (tiny little keys on this notebook) and I am at that age I should consider bifocals but have not taken the plunge. In looking at SA.. ( and the joy on David’s face after he finished) and then looking at some of the later songs, where he stands there with a tenative look before those blankety blank judgea, it is very apparant what SF noticed about the loss of light as the weeks went by. I am just so happy that whole thing is so old news with David’s career now. The next album will put it even further in the past with moving on up.
Joymus -- I will happily keep talking about David! He was in such fine voice tonight, hitting all those tough, high notes just spot on. My son was amazed at the strength of his falsetto-I was as well. You Can and Como La Flor were beautiful, as was Apologize, though he seemed to get tickled about something during the bridge (?) and hesitated slightly before continuing. He had a huge grin on his face at that point. I listen to a lot of classical music, and I cannot believe the vocal control and skills he has already mastered. Wow. Just wow.
My country-music loving son, who was already a David fan, liked You Can, Apologize, and Como La Flor best. He also said he never liked Barriers until he heard it tonight and thought it was amazing.
Also, I think a lot of his running across the stage, like during Crush, is starting to become some pretty nifty dance moves. I just use the word nifty. I believe that dates me.
Thanks for letting me gush!
Xaris -- Thank You so much. I am particularly enjoying the archugazelle runs across the stage for ZG and Crush. The onky thing missing is a handstand -- lol! BTW are you a classical vocalist?
Joymus -- No! I am not a vocalist of any kind unfortunately. I am really good at sitting in the audience and cheering loudly for fine singers:) When pop music became more about making noise than singing, I gave up and concentrated on classical music, with a few exceptions.
Xaris -- The reason I asked is because I have classical training and sing mostly in a chorale that frequqntly performs with an orchestra. I agree with you about current pop music. It is becoming increasingly harder to find true gems and thankfully David came along at the right time. He is a stunning singer/performer. I’ve seen him before but my summer tour dates are the first week in August.
According to tweets, he was spotted at the Beyonce concert in Dallas tonight with a Bryce Avary.
Apologize -- Grand Prairie
very cool….
The Rocket Summer is the rock solo-project of Bryce Avary who is married to Tara Avary, and is based in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. Avary is known for his unique talents as he plays every instrument on his records as well as produces them. The Rocket Summer’s live shows are uplifting, energetic and emotionally charged. Avary’s music has unique emotional qualities that has created a loyal and rabid following of fans around the world.
…Bryce is also very involved in The Invisible Children…possibly how he connected with David?
Little M -- I just ytubed the band ’cause its my first hearing of the name. Indeed the first thing that jumps out at you is his energetic performance. I quite enjoyed the passion in “Do You Feel”
BTW LM, who is Tara Avary?
joymus, from what I can gather from my googling, she’s Bryce’s wife and helps with the band behind the scenes. π
I really love that Apologize performance…I like how D pulls out his ear monitor, like he’s all annoyed with it! he!
HG#24 -- does Rabid have his art for sale -- ie; posters, t’shirts, pics? Everytime he presents a new one, I want it. Anyone know?
Hey LM,
I just researched Bryce Avary and I must say I am seriously impressed. He life reads like a forerunner to David in so many ways and he could learn a lot from this individual. Maybe they just met each other at the show but wouldn’t it be great if they collaborated on a project.
Fanda -- I would love to know as well. I have enjoyed some more than others, but this current one is a keeper.
Good Night All!
joymus -- I know, from my minimal investigations (google and wiki) I would have to agree with you.
I wonder how he and David met…one thing I thought was interesting, I believe Bryce is on Island/Def Jam records. Didn’t a teen daughter of an Island/Def Jam exec recently tweet David something along the lines of “it was fun meeting and hanging out with you the other day?” I know I’m a conspiracy theorist but…hmmmmmm…
rae#61 -“but if you can start with some joy, and the right frame of mind you never know.” aww, that’s so sweet -- I’m with you all the way!
Marlie -- thanx for the HD vids. I think I’m over the drama of AI7 cause those vids brought back the good feelings of discovering and enjoying DA all over again. Am in a state of bliss! Nine more days and oh my……..
Did anyone notice at the end of Sweet Caroline -- Mom and Dad Archuleta are holding a sign that says “David Archuhot” with flames surrounding. Lupe’s smiling from ear to ear in total admiration -- so endearing.
Did anyone also notice a ring on David’s ring finger?? It looks kind of bluish, not like the one his grandmother gave him last year which he had worn on his right hand. Interesting… (personally seriously REALLY hoping it’s not one of those purity rings. Please no!!!)
rascal! Thank you for your article. Gotta read it again but thank you for touching on some very pertinent and important points regarding the world of blogging as it relates to David.
‘Tis bedtime. G’nite lovely TDCers, whoever who may be up at this late hour.
hi vermeer, I’m up!! {{{{haha, waves}}}} …but not for long.
marlie… seriously, those vids are wonderful, and I was able to fill in some holes in my collection. Thanks so much for that pot of gold!
Tulsa World -- review of Demi & demigod, “But the star of this show may be the opening act. Archie, aka David Archuleta, was the runner-up to David Cook on the seventh season of “American Idol.” His debut album has been certified gold with over 500,000 albums sold since its November 2008.”

xaris -- I love your posts -- esp. the comment on not looking like a demented sheep. Pretty funny!
re new fans; the only TMH vid for Grand Prairie/Dallas is pretty much a voiceover of a girl panting & commenting “oh god” or something to that affect. Kinda nullified the song, though.
Barriers from Dallas/GP (Susanna0825):
joymus #68 -- Just wanted to login this morning and say LMAO at your mention of Archugazelle and David doing a handstand! π
Also coming in to report that my friends and I will be in Rockford, IL for David’s solo concert! Yay! π
If any of you are thar lemme know. ronaldsf@gmail
Ronald -- so glad you’ll be seeing a show. Are you sure you don’t want to meet Mike and me in Manchester for closing night? And although we won’t be twittering during the show, we will undoubtedly be making similar observations π
I’ve watched a few non-concert “event” type videos recently — backstage stuff, appearances, fan greets, etc., and I’ve noticed two things. First, David has completely lost any residual “deer in the headlights” looks, and seems to have a degree of comfort and confidence in what he is doing that makes him appear considerably older (and very appealing). Second, there has been the distinct lack of any hovering by certain, shall we say, individuals seeking to share David’s glow. Works for me.
Good Morning everyone,
Here’s a great review. Read the fan comments especially dafan11.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/DN-lovato07_0707gd.State.Edition1.445730c.html
Hello, Good Morning, Hi, How are ya’s, missed ya .. etc etc and so on.
Rascal .. wow.. you make my teeth hurt.. I find myself grinding my jaws together taking in your work… that should not surprise you.
I’ve been doing.. real life stuff over the weekend, but won’t comment until I’ve taken the time to read everyone’s comments.
What a way to start the week.. thanks for the post Rascal.
Ronald -- Thanks for the compliment. David would have been good in gymnastics. His short stature and agility gives him a great center of gravity. I love the twirl in ZG. He started developing those runs during Crush at the Jingle Balls.
Joymus #91 -- That Dallas article -- wholesomeness, patriotic farm boy, squeaky clean and seems to have found the perfect home within the Disney universe???? That person needs a new pair of glasses!
and a hearing aid!
Pabuckie -- Agree about the glasses but not so sure about the hearing aid -- lol!. There was a gem in the middle of the review --
“The 2008 American Idol runner-up, wearing a red-white-and-blue-checked shirt that evoked a patriotic-farmboy feel, displayed exactly why he vaulted so high in the Idol stratosphere. His pure, strong pipes were in perfect form throughout the set, which included his hit “Crush,” as well as an a cappella version of “Como La Flor,” which he sang as a tribute to the late singer Selena.”
Joymus -- ok we’ll let the hearing aid slide. haha
Good morning everyone!

Rascal, it wouldn’t surprise me if the two things you pointed out are somehow related.
fandaforever, I don’t really know about the availability of Rabid’s art. You might want to visit the website and see if you can find out:
http://daviddeviations.ning.com/
Marlie -- txs for the HD video’s, I am loving them
LittleM # 80 -- you have a ‘newshound nose’ re your twitter theory
xaris -- always interesting to me to know what songs the young male fans like to hear
joymus #91 -- WooHoo for new fans
pabuckie -- as joymus pointed out, ya gotta read the comment left by dafan11 at the bottom of the dallasnews article. Sweet.
Guess I can copy that comment here…
Posted by dafan11 | 5 hours ago
Was at this show -David Archuleta put on a much better show from start to finish than Lovato.. There was a professionalism in both stage presence and vocal ability that made him stand out more for me. I googled him after the show to find out more about him, and he is no Disney artist -- thank goodness. Archuleta is a Jive records artist, and judging from tonight, He is miles above and away from anything on the Disney label in talent, stage presence and sheer vocal ability. He’s 18, which is the only thing he has in common with some of that Disney crowd. This the real deal, a true vocal powerhouse, and this tour seems like just a stepping stone for him, as the talent i saw for myself tonight is much larger and genuine than anything Disney could ever hope from their current stable. Hope he comes this way again -- solo next time.
Sweet!!! π
Excellent comment from dafan11 -- thanks for posting here, Awestruck! The fact that s/he is posting as “DAFAN11” must mean s/he converted to the Church of David pretty quickly! π
Welcome to the Arch Angels fanbase!
Guys -- I realize I am in the grips of full spamming mode but I absolutely had to include this review about Beyonce’s show followed by this comment. This same person also made a favorable comment about DA on the first review.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/ent/stories/DN-beyonce_0707.State.Edition1.4455ae8.html
‘Wow, David Archuleta, who performed earlier last night at Nokia in Grand Prairie, twittered that he attended Beyonce’s concert after his opening performance for Demi Lovato and said it was the best concert he’s ever seen. I attended David’s set at Nokia and he was absolutely awesome. Maybe he should have opened for Beyonce’.
David and Beyonce in the same concert?! GAH!
What a concept! π
Speaking of Beyonce’s concert, here’s her tribute to MJ from last week when she was in Atlanta:

Rascal #90, it’s not looking good for Aug. 24 Manchester -- I think I need to be back in CA by that time… but I wouldn’t mind a tweet or a text! hehe
Joymus #102 -- thanks for posting that comment… a new fan who is NOT afaid to speak out!
HG #101 thanks! I lurk-a-lot.
Enjoy!
Uh oh…awestruck…”not afraid to speak out”…..beeee careful….beeee verryyy careful…..lol
So good to be back…. lots of new concert footage. I can not get enough of “My Hands”, I listen to all the different versions, and long for more, so thankful David delivers.
Marlie love that link to those HQ vids. Watching “Shop Around” again, and I fall again, he is soooo goood, but I need not tell you all that.
Thought provoking article Rascal…Amen to this, “For me, respecting David means taking him seriously as an artist. I dare say a far greater number of Davidβs fans are guilty of transgressing this particular tenet than any other. Squealing about how cute he is may not be overtly sensual, but it is nevertheless a focus on the physical. And the all-too common practice of using childish language, infantile pet names, and blatant nannying can be just as cringe-worthy as a tactless reference to sex appeal. In my view, this puerile reduction compromises his ability to be taken seriously considerably more than admiring how his body moves. If treating David like a sex symbol is at one extreme on the respect meter, then coddling him like a precious child is on the other, and both are equally indictable.”
Happy #9- Amen to this as well, “In the real world I, like all of us, wear many hats. Sometimes I behave as the playful entertainer of the crowd and sometimes as the responsible professional. I am actually always both. Which manifestation is brought to the surface depends on the circumstances. It is a question of boundaries. For most situations, time and place matter.”
This blogging thing has been a learning curve for me…. I tend to not participate if the topic is not what I consider appropriate or not interesting to me… live and let live….
I think the diversity that we experience here is a lot like real life, and we need always be respectful. When acting “silly” or “bawdy” in real life it is not written down in a post and does not get analyzed or misconstrued… it is said, laughed about and forgotten…
Anyway, I missed you all while I was gone…
Hi everyone! First I have to say I LOVE YOU RASCAL! Always have, always will!
This whole issue is so tricky. I am known as one of the biggest gushers out there when it comes to David’s looks. I can’t take back the things I’ve said or thought, not that I think I should or that I want to. I’ve tried in vain to separate the feelings I have about his voice (and what it does and means for me) and the feelings I have about his outer beauty because they are two distinct things for me. But both are rooted in respect, awe, and admiration. I simply love the guy, inside and out.
“Most important, however, is to remember that administrators in a fan site community are generous volunteers, not professional editors, publishers, or gatekeepers.”
I concur! My assumption is that the majority of the administrators of the various fan sites have jobs and other obligations in their real lives. I appreciate the time and effort that ALL the fan site administrators put into maintaining the various sites. Not only do the sites support David but they provide hours of entertainment for those of us who post and/or lurk.
On another note, I wasn’t selected to attend Michael’s memorial tomorrow. π However, I will see David in concert later this week. π sweetonda, thx for the heads up on the tickets!
fandaforeverti48, i hope you’re able to make it to a concert this summer!
emmiegirl #108 Did you make that vid? It has so many of the best moments, expressions and “scenes” from the David videos out there. Thank you!
Funnygirl #111 I agree π
Just self-absorbed Jello here saying :
!!I get to see David Archuleta tonight!!
What a great day this is!! Yippee
Oh-and I did want to say that I am VERY thankful and appreciative of all who spend countless hours running fan sites. Without this site, how would I ever get to talk about myself all the time?
I am super-excited about tonight-just wish I could find my tickets. Searching the house over……
DALLAS TOUR PAGE is up & complete π

Sorry for the delayed posting
I love posts like this, they are thought provoking and pull back the covers from some sensitive subjects.
I can promise you, beyond a shadow of doubt, that 99% of the time, I edit, and revise several times before I hit that submit button.
Everyone here, does a swell job policing their own posts. I also know that we are watched, eagle eyes across archuland. Everything we say is scrutinized, analyzed and sometimes criticized.
That’s because there are few if any sites, that delve down into the belly of the beast. As I’ve said previously .. every site has a purpose. Our’s is more geared toward analyzing, dissecting, to US .. all things David are like a fine wine … we don’t glance at the label on the bottle, or take a quick sip to determine the quality.
We sit down with our spitoons and have a go at it. And we have a very diverse bunch, which makes the sampling even more provocative.
David’s performances have grown to include both sides of the spectrum. He can be playful and melodic or he can be serious and passionate.
David .. appears simple …justDavid .. what you see is what you get .. never mistake that for him being naive, or unaware of his body language on that stage. He is wickedly smart, nothing he does, is by accident, everything he does is with intent and purpose. He was recently quoted as saying he doesn’t always want to be known as a teeny bopper artist.. and I think he’s getting his message across.
As long as he’s throwing it out there, I’m not going to pretend I don’t see it. He said he is just allowing himself to feel the music.. and go with it.. and it’s working for him.
Well David.. it’s working for me too .. so do your thang .. you’ve got my undivided attention 8) and maybe that’s what he wants
Awww, how sweet of David to tweet congratulations to Alison for their first AI tour stop. Who else is he following?
Hey JELLO #109 I guess it is in how you do it LOL
Please report to us how the concert goes… lucky you!
On my way home soon just to get back on & wait for word from Tulsa.
HG..David doesn’t follow Alison, SHE FOLLOWS HIM! Along with 126000+ others. :lol
Peace, bye! See ya later!
(((refnaf))) missed you to
Oops! forgot the other : on my π
Dawn: Jeez, I could requote everything you said and go, Right! Right! Right!
Thanks for your thoughts. David does put it out there, and I agree, we don’t have to pretend we don’t see it. π
thanks awestruck…. are you making it to any summer shows?
Joymus #91 and #102 -- did not see the reference to dafan11’s comment until Awestruck #99 pointed it out to me. Thanks to you both. For some reason my computer doesn’t show any comments even when I clicked on it.
Emmiegirl #108 loved your video -- especially since I saw myself in it. Were you also at the PC Richard concert? Great scenes and photos!!
I’m afraid to say anything so I think I’ll just *wave*. π
Joner — LOL. Your wisdom is exceeded only by your sense of humor π
I’ve been wondering this past week about fans and fansites and how everyone enjoys David in their own way. I have come to the conclusion that I will not agree 100% with how every fan views and blogs about David. I’ve probably been guilty of talking about him in all of the ways mentioned in this article over the past year and a half, but lately have cringed at all of them as not quite encompassing who David really is. It hurts somehow when threads devolve into conversations about how adorably dorky and infantile he is and/or discussions of his particular body parts, brilliant thighs not withstanding. And as long as I’m confessing, most times I really just want to clean his room, cook him a hot meal and watch him eat it. I believe that falls into the ‘blatant nannying’ category π
But in the end, all I know is that David deserves the very best support and utmost respect that I can give him. I’m not sure what that all involves, but I will not rest until I find it. And I also know that I can’t help but love anyone else who loves David, whether they use childish language, infantile pet names, want to pinch his cheeks or tactlessly refer to his sex-appeal.
Thanks for letting me share.
momJulee -- I agree that David deserves the “very best support and utmost respect.” And yes, I also agree, that I would LOVE to cook him a hot meal and watch him eat it. LOL! That would be pure heaven. Could we share that evening together please? π
Thanks for sharing!
Momjulee #127 I agree David deserves our utmost support and respect. Yes, he is much more than just physically beautiful…his voice, and most importantly his character speaks for itself. But this I know…it’s hard to talk about just one aspect of David…because he is all that and more! All I know is everyone on this site loves and respects David for who he is so anything we talk about when it comes to David is definitely out of respect and love. David is so one-of-a-kind that I’ve never ever witnessed ALL OF THESE ASPECTS in one person, ever!
On another note I am just loving David’s DANCE MOVES lately. I love when he runs across the stage and SKIPS in CRUSH! I also love his new moves in Waiting for Yesterday -- this is now one of my favorite songs! Did you see him last night in Dallas, he sways, he slips and slides and bops..sometimes he looks like he’s ice skating to me…he’s a regular Fred Astaire/James Brown combo…he’s just so light on his feet. I’ve been lovin’ it. (this is all out of love and respect for David!)
I really like this article, Rascal. I was a bit scared as I started reading it, though. I feared from the title that this site might be taking a turn towards a more ‘controlling’ tone. Anyway, my concerns were put to rest as I read paragraph after paragraph of sensible, relevant considerations. Great job addressing a sensitive issue!
While we try to strike a balance in our appreciation of David, the singer and the man, the new generation of Archies just can’t be bothered. I’ve been reading comments on David and his concerts on Twitter on a daily basis. Wow! They don’t mince their words. One from a young man who had attended the Dallas show actually made me blush. I laughed my head off after the initial shock. I guess what I’m saying is our concerns, though healthy, are useless.
refnaf I don’t think I will make to any shows. How about you? and TOfan?
Interesting perspectives here. Is it okay if I confess that many times I’m confused as to whether or not my main desire is to tuck him into bed or climb in next to him?
Can I even say that? Oops, I already did!
He constantly morphs back and forth between sweet cutie and the hotness, between boy and man, what can I say? π
SF, thanks for clarifying on who’s following whom on twitter.
HG: Yes, boy, man, guilt, no guilt, boy, man, guilt……

-- interesting to hear your observations about the ‘new generation’ Archies. Certainly when we, ‘the first wave’ GOT David he was certainly more reticent, shall we say. I know that I embraced him as a younger than 17 year old (in the ways of many of today’s teenagers) singer, with an overwhelmingly powerful and mature voice. What made me a fan with ODD was his personality as much, if not more, than his voice. Do I worry more about him because of this? Not so much any more, as I see the dynamic difference his growth has wrought in him and translated into his performances. However, I would feel differently if I had just recently heard him sing/perform for the very first time -- a raw, honest, emotional, sometimes sensual performer with an outstanding voice. Is it all in the perspective?
Just another merry-go-round! π
There’s a new mobile voice message David sent out I’m guessing on Saturday…HOW DID I MISS IT???
Call his mobile #1-801-386-8196 and listen to the most glorious singing by the most glorious VOICE ever!!!
Go on..call! You won’t be sorry!!
HG -- I’m not gonna go there, JELLO might get mad at me!
Truthfully I still just want to tuck him into bed, but I CAN still appreciate his performances. It’s a case of “if you can’t look, then you must be dead” for me.
Lur-a-Lot to Spam-a-Lot for me today… Sorry
That should be LURK-a-Lot LOL
and I am all alone right now -- what a shame
gotta run
Called to get my voicemail ~ I don’t know why I didn’t get it either.. but ok.. got it now.
Tucking David in? no, maybe if he was like 12 or something. I guess since I have sons that have passed 18 quite awhile back, I know that the whole tucking in ~ stopped when they reached puberty .. lol. Both my boys can have childlike qualities ~ but aren’t big fans of me treating them that way .. 8)
I think my youngest would like to go back and do it again, but my oldest, leaped to adulthood in some ways ~ taking on a mortgage at 22 is kind of brave ~ but heaven help the person that tries to take away his video games.
silverfox #136, thanks for the heads up! I called my buddy David and he is singing to me!
After a half-minute of that glorious voice, a “hugh!” David’s trademark laugh. π Who else in the world can sing like David but is also so nice and friendly? I wuv him.
As for what I want do to David, I want to slap him around for all the pain he has given me in the past year or so, and then lock him in his room for punishment. See, that wasn’t naughty, right?
Awestruck -- You raised a very valid point. A year ago a tantalizing promise of sensuality was there yet subdued because David still appeared “young” on stage. A year later, as his confidence and stage presence has grown, the rules have changed. That tantalizing promise of sensuality has blossomed tenfold. People who are now new to his talent and increased stage presence are seeing immediately what we waited a year for to unfold. They are “calling” it as they see it on his Twitter and MySpace accounts without fear of censorship.
Sorry I wasn’t around, Awestruck, but got called away by a phone call.
SF, thanks for the heads up! π Oh David, David, you sweetie you! How come I didn’t get a text message that the was an “Independence Day” message?
Hee hee, he’s such a lovable dork. As Ronaldsf already said: I wuv him!
HG -- there is some correction on who David is now following -- Bryce Avary, Demi Lovato and Allison Iraheta.
Awestruck # 134
I think you’ve analysed it well.
New fans are simply calling it like it is.
But we’re no fools either. We knew just what we were getting into when he sang Love Me Tender. What David did with that song was a conscious excercise in seduction. Dawn65 pointed that out very well by saying ‘He is wickedly smart, nothing he does, is by accident, everything he does is with intent and purpose.’ That’s true now as it was true then.
Valbraz #147, since you mention “Love Me Tender”…
Mickey O’Connor, TVGuide.com, May 7, 2008:
“Love Me Tender”
I haven’t been a big Archuleta fan thus far, but after this song, I think I get it. He sang it well, distinguished it enough from Elvis’ version to avoid copycat accusations, and practically sexually assaulted the cameraman his performance was so impassioned.
Joymus #146..yes I see David is now following them for a total of 13 people. I find it odd that David is not following Jason Castro or Cook (or does Cook even have a twitter acct?) Or his brother Daniel or cousin Vanessa, cuz those two are twittering fools..Haha! Maybe that’s why he doesn’r follow them. π
I couldn’t resist this HAWT reminder…
