Nothing Left to Take Away
The Craftsmanship of "Contigo en la Distancia"

It is often said that “perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” What can often be said about sculpture, can also be said about song.
David approaches music as a craftsman—having fully grasped the “center” of a song and having decided what he wants to achieve, he chips away the excess to reveal this inner meaning, and what we are left with is pure, raw sound and emotion.
Yet while the key to the beauty and evocative power of David’s art is its simplicity, he also applies the greatest meticulousness to what remains. In “Contigo en la Distancia,” David applies loving attention to the minutest details to create a complete sensuous experience.
The final product is a performance so seductive, so overpowering, so effective at communicating, that even those who have not the remotest grasp of the Spanish language feel they understand exactly what he is singing about.
As David begins, we see that he has chosen to strip down the arrangement to only an acoustic guitar, exposing his voice to the most exacting scrutiny—every waver, every imperfection is on display for all to hear. Many accomplished singers often surround their voices with lush arrangements and do not make this choice. But David does.
David having made this decision, we are drawn from the beginning to focus only on his voice. With the guitar’s notes being played ever so softly, the song might as well be acappella. And his singing is rich and detailed: David is changing the tonal quality of his notes, fading away at the end of every line ever so softly. We are beckoned in to listen to every detail of his voice.
For nearly all other singers, the “events” are the high notes, the loud notes, the long melismas. But David does what virtually no singer does: make an event out of softness, gentleness, a near silence.
As David ends his intro, his voice subtly softens, and he slows down the song through ritardando (”junto a mi…”). He will do this again later (his last “amada mía”). We are left hanging—one thinks of a lover taking a breath before professing his love. David is in complete command—deciding when the song will speed up or slow down—and has us, the audience, in the palm of his hand. And in the very last words of the song, there is no more meter and we are simply left waiting for every word.
As the guitar provides a steady rhythm, David is phrasing the words in such a way that they do not form simple patterns around the beats, but instead bend and swerve around them. It all flows very naturally, is as if he were speaking sentences over the music, sentences informed by his deep musicality. David is also playing with rhythm, shortening syllables here (”junto a miiii”), or extending notes to lengths so long that they make us hold our breath (his first “en parte de mi almaaaaa” extending to the very end of the musical measure). Just as dancing to some forms of Latin music, with its syncopations and complex rhythms, demands that one undulate and move in curves and exhibit a rich sensuality, so does David express romance, with all of its urgency and pain, through his phrasing.
There are places where David adds decoration to the melody (his second “en parte de me alma”). There are other places where David opts for outright simplicity just when one might expect ornamentation (singing the last syllable of his first “estrellas” in a single, extended note). A skillful writer varies his sentences and is not afraid of simplicity when this is the best way to express meaning. David constantly surprises, and the discerning listener does not quite know what will come next.
David gives a wispy quality to his voice through much of the first verse, at times singing in a near-whisper (“consuela”). He then makes us shudder the next moment with tremendous power (“es que has convertidoooo…”). David’s instrument is exceedingly expressive—it was put best by a fellow TDC’er (whose TDC name I do not know!) who commented as “Twilarchight” on YouTube: “He has a voice that can resonate across an entire concert venue without a microphone, yet has the a gift of caressing every syllable like it’s fragile crystal that will shatter upon contact.”
David makes sure to display the beauty of his mother’s native language. His consonants are exceedingly soft, and we are left almost entirely with a sequence of distinct vowels that are barely separated. In doing so, David draws out the Spanish language’s reliance on vowel patterns to distinguish various meanings. At times, we also hear the strength of the language’s rhythms in his forceful, almost staccato delivery (his first “en parte de mi alma”).
David also chooses to pronounce the “ll” in Spanish as a “zh” sound. (There are many Spanish speaking countries that speak a “y” sound.) Christina Aguilera does this as well, but David takes care to enunciate clearly every sound, so that when we hear it in certain lines (”no hay bella melodía”, “más allá de tus labios”) it has even more of a caressing, chocolate-melting-in-your-mouth quality.
David’s vocal production often goes through numerous transformations in a single line. Listening closely, one hears David changing the tonal quality and volume of his voice while in the middle of a word (“estrellaaaas”). Sometimes he alternates crescendo and diminuendo in a single phrase, sometimes even in a single syllable (”junto a miiiiiii”). David’s also varies his vibrato constantly—one hears him adding a little here, a little more there, and none of it in another place. (Compare the amount of nuance and variation in his vibrato alone compared to that in his AI performance of “Imagine,” and one sees a forward leap in musical sophistication and control.)
David’s attention to detail, this commitment to sensuousness, is paid off at the end of the first chorus when the audience breaks out in appreciative, rapturous applause. Singers often get ovations only at the end of the song or in the middle of a technically challenging note, but not here—David is getting recognition for an entire sequence in which he has demonstrated musical mastery, just as a musically inclined audience might react after hearing a brilliant extended jazz improvisation.
The appropriateness and grace that David often applies to melody is on full display. This is partly because the original melody is so beautiful and graceful, but one need only compare his second chorus to his first to see that David is reimagining the melody, a la “Love Me Tender.” Nearly every phrase in the second chorus is sung more urgently than in the first. In addition to reinventing the original melody, he is reinventing his own reinvention. What is more, he is also aware of the overall shape of the melody, and the relationship between each part to a whole—the ending of every line is a suitable basis for the beginning of the next (the second time he sings “estrellas” he moves the note up and back down again to build anticipation). And finally, stepping back, there is a “shape” to the entire song: we never do we find ourselves wondering “where is he going with this?” or “when is this song going to end?”.
In fact, the whole song is so beautiful that in the song’s last moments, when the song’s meter is gone, with David singing those last few notes ever so slowly, we are right there with him wishing we would never leave this peaceful place he has brought us.
Christina Aguilera’s version is the one that inspired David to love this song in the first place, and his interpretation resembles Christina’s quite closely. However, one can hear a difference in the runs—David’s usually have fewer notes, and sometimes one does not even know they are happening because they flow so naturally from the underlying melody (his second “si no estás tú también” is amazingly complex and diverges from the original shape of the melody, but one could easily not notice this). One who is not familiar with David might not notice that he is adding to the original melody. Furthermore, David is adding precious dynamics to his runs and is not simply alternating between notes: when he first sings “amada mía,” we hear him deepening and pressing with his voice to add emphasis (aptly giving it a more masculine feel while addressing a woman with the feminine ending “a”). Near the end of the song, when he sings “estoy” and glides back downward, he is constantly shifting the vowel syllable he is voicing and sliding from one note to the next, giving a different emphasis and sound to each one. At this moment, as he caresses every tone, one gets a feeling of the closest intimacy—of someone gently laying down his beloved. All of these dynamics invite one to enter the emotion of the song and drift to another place.
Luis Miguel’s version is very passionate and heartfelt, and he brings an awesome power to the big notes. When I listen to his interpretation, I think of “method acting,” in which an actor’s focus is on embodying a character and feeling his or her emotions, instead of using external techniques to communicate that emotion. Luis Miguel sings phrases the way one might when “singing from the gut” what one is feeling at one moment.
However, David seems to combine both passion and musicality: he “gets into” the song, but he also expresses this emotion through distinct musical choices. There is something very elegant about his melodic lines, so that they approach the grace of classical music. Luis Miguel’s version often used quickly spoken syllables followed by a long note, without much distinction between one phrase and the next or between the notes in each phrase. But just listen to the precise, jazzy movement of David’s second “más allá de tus labios”—set in a delicious, rhythmically-even pattern—which contrasts to the lines sung before and after it. And when he reaches the last syllable of “labios,” he inserts an extremely fast trill (alternating between two notes), increases in volume, decreases in volume, adds more vibrato, then increases in volume again while stepping to a higher note only to soften and slide down again, this time in an almost bluesy style. This is also David interacting with the guitarist, who changes rhythmically and strums a series of jazz chords in sequence. While some singers may demonstrate musical virtuosity by pulling from a toolbox of discrete tools—melisma, growling, purring, each method distinct from the other—David combines techniques, with a larger musical vocabulary, and within each technique uses a spectrum of variation.
Having lovingly painted an aural canvas and guided his audience to an intimate, peaceful place, David finishes the song with what can only be described as a cry to heaven (“estoy”). While Christina chose to emphasize the high point of this song with ornamentation, David does something different. He is going after the emotion, and is telling a story through his singing. After already demonstrating how love makes him feel, he is now showing how much he is willing to give and sacrifice for it. It is as if every moment, every nuance in the song he has added so far has prepared us for this one fearsome moment—a moment awesome in its power and which David has fully earned. David, having stripped away everything that was extraneous, has now taken us by the hand and guided us to the center of the song and its secret. With nothing left to take away—we now hear what he hears.
There comes a point when this analysis must end—while David approaches song deliberately, not all that he does is deliberate. He is not simply executing a predetermined plan, but is living in the music as he sings it. I am sure that some of the “choices” I have described were not actually “chosen.” I read somewhere (I believe it was something written by Chenson) that a lot of the beauty and subtlety David brings is subconscious, that he does much of this without thinking about it. In addition to what he plans beforehand, much of what he actually does, in the moment, flows from his deep musical instincts. Although David is a perfectionist, he does not try to achieve a perfection that is is stable and frozen—every time he performs he is seeking beauty and grace. This is perhaps David’s most important gift—at the end of the day, all the technical mastery and musical craftsmanship in the world cannot replace the fact that David loves every moment he is up on that stage—living in the music.
Some great artists have described how, after finishing their work, they are moved to tears. They feel they have given all they have, and that a piece of their soul rests within what they have created.
Every song holds cradled within it a part of the soul of its composer, a soul that resonates in the hearts of its listeners and singers long after they are gone. David has taken a song that is widely adored, placed a part of his soul within it, and shared it with the world. He has created what is now the definitive version of a widely-known, much-beloved song and made us see its beauty with new eyes. Again.

Ronaldsf – wow such beauty in writing….. “Having lovingly painted an aural canvas and guided his audience to an intimate, peaceful place, David finishes the song with what can only be described as a cry to heaven (”estoy”).”
There is so much to absorb from your thread that is written with prose about David’s technical aptitude but the gut feeling of his emotional journey through this song is wonderous.
“He is going after the emotion, and is telling a story through his singing. With nothing left to take away—we now hear what he hears.” Oh my…………..
Ronaldsf, I studied voice in my younger years and I have to tell you, reading your exacting musical analysis of David’s Contigo is a thrill ride. I want to grovel at your feet (but won’t because I am still in my pajamas). Then go take a cold shower. This piece is so well done awestruck does not even come close to describing it. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU!
Thank you Ronaldsf for another beautifully written article!
Check this out from last night. Roll it, David!
Ronaldsf, Thanks for your great commentary. I will have to read your analysis a couple more times to fully digest all that is there but a couple things stand out immediately.
“while David approaches song deliberately, not all that he does is deliberate. He is not simply executing a predetermined plan, but is living in the music as he sings it. I am sure that some of the “choices” I have described were not actually “chosen.” I read somewhere (I believe it was something written by Chenson) that a lot of the beauty and subtlety David brings is subconscious, that he does much of this without thinking about it.”
David has worked hard to achieve superb technical skills but it’s the power, passion and emotion of the song and its story on which David focuses his attention. The technical skills, applied more through muscle memory than by conscious thought, only serve to augment David’s passion and emotion.
I have to give a little more credit to the guitarist. More than applying a steady rythim ever so softly, he followed David through the song sometimes echoing David’s subtle runs and vocalization. He listened to David’s performance and accompanied David, in the true sense of the word, through the song. The guitarist for “Imagine” and pianist for “Love Me Tender” took their own paths though the song leaving David to stay in sync. The guitarist here showed David the respect he deserved by following as David led the way through “Contigo”.
Ronald: I think I will have to take your article and read it sentence by sentence while watching the video of David singing Contigo. It might take me more than an hour, and I may have to listen 10 or 15 times to work through the study guide you have provided me. And, wooo, I have never had a study guide written with such beautiful words and such obvious love of music and of David. Thank you.
Ronald
You take us to school with this fine piece. I am with Marlie, I need time to digest and process. It’s a feast!
From the last thread:
I finished my newest video. It is called WTC 911 with David Archuleta singing Falling. It comes with a warning to any who are still grieving. Intense, yes. Made with much respect.
Abrra
Abrra – I swear this could be a visual documentary on ABC or such. Your selection of images is perfect with the words of the music.
Good morning everyone, and thank you, Ronald, for adding another layer to our reception of Contigo en la Distancia. It really serves as a trilogy of sorts. I love that expression of David as a “craftsman” in his attention to details in a song. Maybe we can call him a “Songsmith”?
HG: Yes, the articles by Rascal, you and Ronald are a trilogy of articles that give us three different perspectives on this performance. I think the fact that there ARE three articles tells us a lot about the richness of David’s performance of Contigo en la distancia.
This is a great piece of writing to accompany one of David’s landmark performances.
Thanks, Ronald!

Thank you, again. The process I use to create sometimes causes me to reach in deep to my core of sensitivity.
Falling was written by David a few years after the event. It has been one of the “oprhhan” songs from the CD. It’s time has come to be adopted into our hearts. I do not know if the event had anything to do with some of the pain in the song, but I am easily convinced it may.
Abrra
Thank you everyone for the kind words! I’m glad folks like it so far. I was concerned about the danger of dissecting the performance so much as to kill it, so I tried to strike a balance between talking about detail and how it made me feel, and left it up to people to choose whether they wanted to hear every single moment or not.
HG, yes! “Songsmith” is an apt term. Wish I had thought of it LOL!
Skiffrower #4, you are totally right about the guitarist here – he “accompanied” David in the truest sense. It is also perhaps the flipside of what I tried to get at when I said that David was in command of the song and how fast and slow it went – whereas on AI, David probably had little time to practice with the accompanists before showtime and so probably had little time to “pass notes,” here we have two people who have had the chance to prepare together.
It lets David lead the song, and oh how yummy that sounds.
Also, on what you said: “David has worked hard to achieve superb technical skills but it’s the power, passion and emotion of the song and its story on which David focuses his attention. The technical skills, applied more through muscle memory than by conscious thought, only serve to augment David’s passion and emotion.”
So true!!
Ronald – Your word analysis of Contigo en la Distancia is as stunning as David’s vocal performance of it. Each in it’s own way. Thank you for this.
ronald…ronald…ronald
I have watched this performance so many times and every time I noticed something new, so much to get lost in. I love your analysis, so colorfully descripive that I need to print this out and view said video, go step by step to make sure I don’t miss a thing.
I may need help getting out.
Abrra…
Your last to videos to Save the Day and Falling two of my favorite songs are a work of art. These songs bring me to tears on their own now with the touching images have taken them to a new dimension….thank you!
Angelica…waiting…
Ronald – far from killing the pleasure, your article enhances the richness of that performance. Look what we have done here with this series of articles from mikesd, Rascal, HG and Ronaldsf. Wow.
Off-topic, but could David have BEEN any cuter last night? That smile could light up a city.
ronald – man do you know how to bring the house down! You get him and you get it and you are amazing in your own right.
Thank you for this, will be replaying video with your post in hand over and over and over.
So blessed to have such diversity and talent here at TDC.
Abrra – very touching video. Nice connect.
davidfanliz – cute yes, but more, much more….and egads, what he did in those few seconds of Let It Be, loved it, loved it! And stage presence, he just owns it, even when he is trying not to.
Liz and emmiegirl: He can’t just sing…his voice doesn’t do that…he has to SING!
Ronaldsf and Abrra, David is not the only great artist out there. Both of you are wonderfully talented, creative and artistic in your own rights. Waking up to your creations was a total joy. Thanks again.
As for David last night, I get such a kick out of him when he tries to remain in the background and not steal the show. If someone did not know him, one would think, by this appearance, that he was some kid from the local town jammin’ with the stars on stage, instead of the dynamic powerhouse that he is, commanding entire arenas everywhere he goes. He was so respectful of his AI buddies last night. “Let It Be” in a perfect song for David to bring down house. I remember Brooke saying that a number of the AI contestants wanted to sing it on AI, but her name was picked out of a hat. David got stuck with “We Can Work It Out”and, well, you know.
To quote Simon “when you’ve got it, you’ve got it”. Most people, in and out of Showbiz, spend hours trying to look “gorgeous” to others. David only needs to throw on a T-shirt and a pair of pants, show up, and voila, he’s the handsomest guy in the room.
bliss: And when he did let it go, woo hoo, it was soulful. I noticed that when he let himself SING, his whole body and energy were in it.
Ronald – so many things to love about your article. That first image/idea is quite strong in my mind – of nothing left to take away, just the simple, pure, essence of the song. In a sculpture you chip away until the image is revealed. In Contigo, as you said, he “fully grasped the ‘center’ of the song.”
Who really knows why this happened, in this song, at this moment. Perhaps he knew this song from childhood, perhaps those melodic lines and Spanish phrases go deep into his bones. In any event, the experience for the listener, even through the small screen of YT, is less that he is performing, and more that he is “living” the song and takes us ecstatically with him.
beebee, I know your out there somewhere watching that Let It Be…spill!
Ronald – You have taken a beautiful work of art and broken it into pieces. The result is a mosaic of brilliant observations that is a work of art in it’s own right. You hold the pieces up to the light and turn them so that we can grasp and marvel at every facet of perfection. Standing O to an extremely astute and gifted writer and musical critic.
The biggest challenge David has in life, I think, is to try to remain “one of the guys” when everything about him; his talent, his charm, his looks, etc, etc. is just so superior to his peers. His “ace in the hole” is his humility and sincerity. Those qualities will keep him loved and liked by those who would otherwise be threatened by David and tend to shy away. His humility in the face of worldwide adoration is high on the long list of qualities that I admire about him. His demeanor on stage last night is a great example of that trait.
OK
The best laid plans of mice and Abrra have gone all wrong. The video in #26 is BAD! I have reworked it 6 times today. It stopped near the end, so I deleted it off YT.
Admins: Kindly remove my post #26. The video is gone. No more time is going to be spent on that one! Someone is testing my patience today
Abrra
Abrra – done.
bliss – I don’t know about it being his biggest challenge, but agree with your premise. Also, unfortunately, many who feel threatened by him feel the need to attack him rather than just shy away.
Ronald: Magnificent analysis! I’ll be reading this for days! I’m a lover of details so I enjoyed how you disected each phrase of the song and broke it down to it’s bare bones.
Thank you!
Abbra: Kudos to you on your new “WTC 911 Falling” video. As I expressed to you last night in chat when I first saw it, David’s soothing voice in this song heals the pain of the memories of that tragic day which you so truthfully depicted in your video.
And here’s last night’s video for “Let It Be” at the Murray Theater. It brought tears to my eyes. Haven’t figured why, yet.
If Contigo de la Distancia were the last song David ever sang, it would be with great pride (and with the happiest smile) to say he accomplished more – to stir our senses – than with any other previous performance. Truly magnificent in every way! But, David is just at the beginning. It is overwhelming to imagine what finely-wrought stylings lie ahead. I hope his mood will always be as thrilling… and romantic for, I know, our listening pleasure will last and last!
Emmiegirl, true, David probably has greater challenges than what i posted. I got a little carried away. I just had a little war or words with some jerk on You Tube who was trashing David for singing “imagine” on AI. David’s persona is very threatening to a lot of people because he exposes, by example, the shortcomings that we can usually hide in an ocean of other flawed people. I see David an an example of a better way to be. Some people see him as a possibility that they can never realize.
Woaaahh! Ronaldsf, I think Jen A took the words right out of my mouth “I want to grovel at your feet (but won’t because I am still in my pajamas)”. LOL! Ok, not exactly in my PJ, but I so love reading anything that helps deepen my appreciation of David’s artistry. I am not musically inclined so I related to everything said by way of my love and understanding of visual art because it is no different on a fundamental level.
I read this slowly, savoring and hanging on every word, and will go back to each section as I relisten to Contigo over and over again.
I didn’t say this when rascal posted his article on Contigo, but knowing more about what makes David’s singing so magical doesn’t make me love David and his talent more, but it makes me appreciate it much more deeply, and that in turn makes life that much richer, just like David’s VOICE. A huge THANK YOU to you!
My post #32, the “huge THANK YOU” was meant to be put in a new paragraph to finish up my great appreciation for ronaldsf’s heart felt effort for a fabulous new thread. Not that I am not thankful for rascal’s write up too, I certainly am! And also to all the other musically inclined people who wrote from the musical perspective, it is much appreciated!
bliss-well, in a war of words, my money is on you, and I am very glad you are on David’s side!
Ronald, beautiful post!
As one who loves to make predictions, we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. David’s rendition and performance of CELD is unbelievably awesome and out of this world sublime, but as he has shown over & over, he continues to amaze us with his musical brilliance. At 18 years old, he has not even come close to showing us what he can do, even though we think how can that be possible? How can David be any better? Well hold on to your hats, because I truly believe CELD was just a snippet of what’s to come from David. I dream of the day when David will be comfortable and confident in songwriting. If he can take us where no other vocalist can with songs written by others for others, can you imagine the heights he will take us with his own future compositions? A perfect example has been with his live interpretations of two of his co-written songs..DLG and SOT.
Like I said, we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. Aye Dios Mio!!
Emmiegirl, thanks for your vote of confidence. I may not do a lot of the hands on stuff such as create and maintain wonderful websites such as TDC, but my devotion to David is unconditional and total, and I will not let disrespect of any kind go unchallenged. It’s the least I can do for a young man who has brought so much joy and hope to so many people in his short time in the public eye. David is the most respectful and well mannered person I have ever encountered. He deserves nothing less from those he meets or those who write about him.
bliss: “I may not do a lot of the hands on stuff such as create and maintain wonderful websites such as TDC”
That probably just proves your sanity
Lovely is a performance that evokes such emotional idealism.
PROUD MARY -- Brooke with DA & other special guests -- TY StarryNites01
See DA groove! Funny that this is a Brooke’s gig but the video is focused on you know who! LOL
Another LET IT BE ty to StarryNites01 again
BLUEBARSA – you are sooo right. David is just starting. CELD gobsmacked a whole lotta of peeps? Let us just wait till we hear his AVE MARIA. CELD left me speechless and on the floor for days… Am actually scared. For years, Pavarotti’s version has been my benchmark which may change come Oct 13.
RONALD – great piece! Have to read it 2x. Am in awe in how you took his performance to heart. Your attention to detail is impressive. But who could blame you when the subject matter is as magnetic as DA? Again, thanks for a great read.
And for what it’s worth, re David’s pronunciation of LL — he actually mixed it. “Estrallas” he did with “y” and “bella” and “alla” in “j” or “zh”.
In vernacular terms, “LL” is almost always pronounced as a “Y”, but it does vary by region. You will find that Argentina is probably the nation that has the most varied Spanish pronunciation; they pronounce “LL” as more of a “J” or “ZH” sound. Sometimes, they also pronounce “Y” like “SH” in the English word “show”.
Cubans, however, are notorious for fast speech and chopping off words, so hearing the sound “J” or “ZH” is not uncommon, especially in an informal, friendly (or argumentative) conversation The sound “SH” is common in Argentina, Uruguay, parts of Colombia and parts of Spain.
At times, the change in pronouncing “LL” from a soft “Y” to a hard “J” or “ZH” is a form of affectation or for emphasis sake.
Nerdy much, am I? LOL
Bottomline: it doesn’t matter how David would say it. I’d still be floored and say YES to whatever he is saying. Who is with me on this?
JR – both my hands (and feet, oh, ooow,) are raised!
Ronald, I have read your article once while replaying David’s masterpiece, but like Marlie #5, I need to reread and listen a few more times to fully take in all that you have said in your masterpiece. WHEW!
WOW WOW WOW Ronald, I loved reading your post, and I, like Marlie, GBW, Abrra and I’m sure, several others who are going to read your post & listen to CELD over & over again to find all the wonderful gems that David had offered to us through his wonderful performance.
skiffrower #4- One of my favorite parts of the performance was when the guitarist had stopped while David was singing, smiled, then continued on. It seemed to me like the man was relishing in David’s voice and I feel he was pretty pleased to be able to perform with such a skilled songsmith.
JR#41 – I’m in! Love the way he enunciates his words – sends me to somewhere in dreamsville. Your explanation of his enunciation in regards to different cultures was fascinating. Though I do not understand spanish, I CAN feel it when he sings it. IDK, just so hard for me to explain it all.
Might be just me but has anyone tried listening to CELD through a good pair of earphones. It’s like the words are soothing my brain (HG, balm?) WOW, pure bliss……
Thanks again, everyone! And please know that I never would have written this the way I did, had David never inspired me.
Also, I have not had much formal musical education – took a music theory class in high school, a basic musicianship class in college, and no music listening. I’ve also looked at one of my older sister’s college textbooks that looked at music from Motown and the Beatles.
But I feel like I’m really learning from David. I just try to listen closely and I keep wondering to myself, “How the heck did he do that? What is he doing?” David makes this a rewarding endeavor because you always can find new things. So if I sound like an “astute” music critic, it is only because David has taken me to school! LOL
One truly can hear new things in CELD every single time: I just realized that part of why “En parte de mi alma” sounds so forceful is because he changes syllables and then changes the note. And then “partaaaaar me de ti” sounds so beautiful because he extends that one syllable more than he “should.” It is almost as if his level of detail were infinitesimal. And he is doing something with his voice there, too, that makes it sound so haunting and beautiful – I don’t know what it is! No matter how much I try to understand all this, there is always something mysterious and wondrous about this performance for me. It’s like being able to have the richest morsel of food that I can savor over and over again. For free! LOL
JR #41, I too noticed that David varied his pronunciation of the “LL” in “estrellas.” In a draft I noted that he may have done it deliberately, so as to emphasize the bright, clear sound of “estrellas.” Or maybe it was an oversight? I didn’t know so I left it out… But I do not think it was accidental – Christina uses the “ZH” sound here, and so David is not simply copying over from her version.
Fandaforeverti48 #45, thank you for the earphones idea. Makes me remember that I actually have a very good pair of headphones and I want to try it out on this baby now.
Ooh I can’t wait!
gosh ronald, this is marvelous! Can you believe how David’s rendition of ONE SONG can be such a feast> David is the only artist who can do this for me… don’t know what else to day except thanks for your discriptive article, and again … gosh!
I now know what is on my Christmas wish list … high quality earphones, not sure I can wait that long though, isn’t Christmas on Oct. 13?
ronald you just rock!
refnaf – “isn’t Christmas on Oct. 13?”
You are almost correct but not quite. The actual holiday is still December 25th, but this year, the season of celebration and light begins on the 13th of October. That means decking the halls and listening to carols will be prolonged much longer than in previous years. Hope this was helpful.
Speaking of celebrations…today is my birthday. Because of David, I am 18 at heart and that’s all that matters to me.
Angelica Happy Birthday!! It’s so cool to be 18 again, isn’t it??!!
You share your birthday with the most important person in my life…my mother.Woot!!
Ronald thank you for this absolutely delicious article. I am enjoying each wonderful morsel slowly and savoring each piece. This will help the wait until Oct. 13.
Angelica, Feliz cumpleanos! My daughter’s was on the 20th. I think you are on the cusp astrologically. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
Happy birthday, Angelica!! And with David’s Christmas CD only 15 days away tis a happy day!!
Happy 18th birthday Angelica and wishing you many more!
You know the drill….pretend he says your name…lol
Happy Birthday Angelica!
And remember, a wise person once said…
“A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the Archu-trip.”
Ronaldsf, I enjoyed your article very much. I found it rich, thought provoking, educational, and conceived with deep respect. Although you may have hesitated, you had to write it. Thank you.
You are not like those “counters” in the “Little Prince” who labor to enumerate only. No, you are more like the child on the train who sees everything. DA to me is like, for however brief a time, seeing that child looking back at me. A moment of such innate trust, recognition and understanding that it seems to last forever.
Ronaldsf – I marvel all over again, every time I read your exquisite piece, which I’ve done now several times. Whew! “David finishes the song with what can only be described as a cry to heaven (‘estoy’).” And a *cry to heaven* goes up from me as well, reading this poetic and illuminating prose! Thank you.
Thank you, bluesky. The “Little Prince” sounds like a compelling story (just looked it up
) and I’d like to read it some day.
I should say too that I was NOT going to write this until I was egged on by my fellow TDCers. I don’t remember who exactly it was, but you know who you are! And thanks!
Happy birthday, Angelica!!! Why am I not surprised that you are a Libran. The way you write reveals the best traits of your sign. And when I saw the note David sent you, I felt like he wrote it to me, too! (We share a real-life name, lol!)
Ronaldsf, I loved your exquisite digression of David’s CELD. He does bring out the best in us by inspiring us to do things beyond what we know of ourselves. You should feature-write as a second profession.
On a different and unfortunately sad note, I am aware of what happened in this site two days ago which caused so much disagreement among the admins and commenters. I didn’t participate in it because there was a crisis happening back home which severely affected Manila and needed my utmost attention as it affected a company project, my family and some people dear to me. Just to share, it was an unusually heavy flood, where the volume of rainwater in six hours reached a level that was a month’s worth of rain! Areas which normally do not flood experienced flash floods. I have officemates who are still enduring the wrath left by Typhoon Ondoy (international codename Ketsana). A close associate lives in the area shown in this video, where families had to stay on the rooftops of their two-storey homes till the flood waters subsided. It breaks my heart to see what she’s dealing with all around her since the typhoon:
There are many kind-hearted fellowmen who have been sending and helping with donations and distribution of relief goods. However, the death toll is rising as there are portions of the metropolis which are still submerged in waters and mud, which makes it difficult for rescuers and relief workers to reach the victims who have had no food, sleep, potable water, much less power. Another storm is brewing in the area of Guam threatening to follow in the path of Ketsana/Ondoy towards the Philippines. Hopefully, it veers towards another direction or weakens in strength upon landfall.
We need everyone’s prayers and good intentions for us to survive this crisis. In spades. Thanks for allowing me to write this here.
Ronaldsf, the “Little Prince” is a child’s story for adults. It takes only an afternoon to read. It’s eloquence (and it is deeply eloquent) reminds me of what is important in life.
ascphil, all my good thoughts. My you be sustained by the love and strength of those around you.
Thanks to everyone for the happy birthday wishes! I just got the best present ever. Did the math and turns out I am one year younger than I thought. lol! Sweeeeeeet!!!
ascphil – You can count on my prayers for you, your family and loved ones and all those affected by the floods. God bless.
15 Days —————–>

I am really looking forward to this album!!
Angelica…I also want to send birthday wishes your way…So how well did you do in math in school? What a great surprise or a great joke…
SB
Off topic but I couldn’t seem to post on the “Let’s Play a Game” topic where a possible private (charity) event was and being discussed among the other things. I have wondered since the idea of a private fan event came up way-back-when and my question is: What does a person have to do to qualify to be a “fan” to go to this type of event? It was suggested that it be for fans of all the various “David” fan sites but I wondered how could this be arranged? It is not like we are all part of a private “company”. I love the idea of seeing David but I guess it would have to be in an open concert style so as not to alienate anyone who likes David but doesn’t go on to the fansites. Also, who is actually donating to the charity? Us or David? Are we asking David to donate his time? Just wondering because it was such an interesting idea.
collegemom – the event idea is dead.
Marlie7, I’m confused. Liz # 266 on the “Lets Play a Game” article said “we actually hope to try again in the future”. Sounds to me that there’s some life in the idea after all.
bliss – this particular event idea is dead.
I have hopes of trying again in the future. Collegemom – we had been in touch with all the major fansites, and it would have been open to anyone. As Rascal says, there’s no shame in trying. And we tried our damnedest.
ascphil- My thoughts and prayers are with you and all who are suffering because of these floods. ((hugs))
Angelica- Happy Birthday! My your day be filled with plenty of love & adventure.
I have been reading posts all over the internet comparing David’s rendition with Luis Miguel’s & Christina’s. Luckily, Dabuzzing.org posted all of them together so I could compare.
Luis has a very beautiful voice but, in the video he seemed a little distracted to me, so I had a hard time getting into the song.
Christina’s was gorgeous until the end. It became too hard for me, if that makes sense. David’s also swelled like the ocean, but unlike Xtina’s, where the wave crashes against the rocks, David’s rendition pulled me along, engulfed me in an “Hawaiian Rollercoaster Ride” but gently deposited me on the sand.
Alright, so I’m not a wordsmith lol, but that is my take on these three renditions of the song.
Angelica, Happy Birthday! And thank you again for all the beautiful videos. You and Abrra are truly Masters!
David may be at Kendra’s concert as we speak, but we may not hear about it til it’s over. David just wouldn’t want to take the spotlight away from Kendra, and you all know that’s what would happen if he’s sighted there. He wants to support his friends, but it’s inevitable more & more that his presence at concerts will cause some “disturbances”.
David said he may have his wisdom teeth pulled. OUCH! But if it’s necessary, he better get it over with now.
I’m sorry about not posting last night! I fell sound asleep early and did not wake up til 4:30 this morning and by then it was time to get ready for work. I’m just glad David was home and not on the road!
Good night, and for David..
Dear lord,
Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
GIVE US THE WISDOM TO ALWAYS DO RIGHT BY DAVID.
OPEN OUR EYES AND HELP US IN THE WAY WE SUPPORT DAVID SO THAT IT’S ALWAYS IN HIS BEST INTERESTS.
Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey.
Keep David and and his voice healthy and strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen
David, have a good night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. SENDING YOU WARM THOUGHTS & SPECIAL PRAYERS IN HOPES THAT YOU SUFFER AS LITTLE PAIN AS POSSIBLE, AS WELL AS FOR A SPEEDY RECOVERY FROM THE AFFECTS OF YOUR TEETH EXTRACTIONS TOMORROW! Hoping all goes well!
Contigo siempre en la distancia, con amor!
ascphil, thinking of you and your family and all the people who are affected by typhoon and flooding.
Wishing Angelica a very Happy 18th Birthday!!
ascphil… thoughts go out to you and everyone affected by the flood..
Angelica … best of wishes for a happy year!
i quite agree with what you wrote. i also realized something today though. when i listend to the performance again, i heard that he sang “apartarme de ti” like Luis Miguel instead of “apartarte de mi” like Christina’s and his version from when he was little. i thought that was interesting.
Yup, “surprise” appearance with Kendra… bet there’ll be a vid soon.
Angelica #49, Happy Birthday! Not sure, no I know, I would not like to be 18 again but I hope you have a blast.
Ascphil #58, hope and pray that all will be well soon.

I see Vee in chat for short peroids. Real life has kept her busy. She is around, but maybe not showing much presence.
As for Dawn and knotsliser, I am in touch. Both are well. Sometimes work and family take all one’s attention. I am willing to bet that soon we will see them.
Abrra, Thanks. (((Waves))) “Lets Stay Together”
What a kick it must be for David to hang out with music friends and just show up to do a quick song or two. Next concert for him is Manchester and I will be there.
HPfanRinnie i find this in youtube i think is interesting, but i can find the version of Jose Feliciano ( the same of Feliz Navidad and 8 times Grammy winner)
¨Here’s the answer for those whose curious:
The version David Archuleta is not a Christina Aguilera arrangement at all.
It’s Jose Felicaino the only difference David Archuleta has a Slow Soulful Touch Tempo while Jose Feliciano is more like Jazzy Spanish Guitar rendition. ¨
I love David’s version like Luismi studio version great voice both of them. But tbh David live don’t have comparation and this come from a luismi fan.
Tonight part 1…w/kendra
part 2…TBWY
Dj – thank you. I am sometimes surprised at how I react to him. I listen off and on all day. I am usually moved. But he took this someplace else tonight. His voice is so beyond beautiful here. All the changes he did. OMG – now I will be in fangirl mode all night.
Bravo David. Didn’t expect this at all. To be crying at 1 in the morning.
It is so good that it hurts.
betsy….. Thank you for accompanying me in the crying….he is such an overwhelming experience that yes, it truly hurts.
Damn – that was just beautiful!
New video of tonight!
Hi guys.
I would like to thank those who have sent private messages and emails praying and wishing for our safety. Thanks for the kind thoughts. Yes my family, parents and siblings are safe, thank God. We live in areas not adversely affected by Typhoon Ondoy.
For me and my kids, It was sort of a miracle actually cos the 3 villages surrounding the subdivision where we live were flooded up to the chest. But our subdivision didn’t have any flooding. Probably we have better drainage or our waste disposal is better than the surrounding villages. A tree nearly hit my car. Missed it by a ruler!
Sadly, one of my managers actually lives in Provident Village, Marikina — that’s one of the three calamity areas in the city that suffered much. They lost everything. Husband and wife will be going back to their place today to find out if they can still salvage anything. My heart is breaking cos they have not even finished paying for their dream house
So far, all of the Archie Pinoys we know are safe.
Meanwhile, my kids and I are doing our bit helping calamity victims. Yes please continue to pray for us because unfortunately we are in for another bout with a storm coming from Guam. The weather forecasters say it may follow the same trajectory that the last storm took.
Again thanks for your kind thoughts.
ps: On a lighter note: RONALD – you mean you don’t have a habit of listening to David with headphones? Sacrilege!!!
I always do. It is the next best thing to his live performance.
Jr – I’ve been thinking about you and all the Pinoys. So glad you are safe and will continue to pray for you all.
Still can’t get over that surprise performance from tonight. Every note has me smiling and crying.
ascphil and JR, this news is horrible! I hope everything stays okay for you! It must be terrifying to have gone through that and know that another might be coming on the way.
I love it when he crashes concerts.
JR: (On the same lighter note) These are a GOOD (as in VERY GOOD) pair of headphones that I got along with my Yamaha digital piano! (Hee hee!) I love em!
I tried em on according to fandaforeverti48′s suggestion and it was a different experience! To able to hear the bass notes of the guitar and for David’s voice to be even more resonant. Gah! Now I have to hear it THIS way 100 times lol
jackryan – So glad to know that you and your children are safe. Our hearts go out to those affected by the storm.
Oh! And HAPPY BDAY ANGELICA! Have a good one
Oh!Oh!…..Oh,,,, that ending.
yes poof. and that glory note is unlike any of them. And they are all good. Dead now.
JR: So glad your loved ones are safe. Saying prayers that you all continue to remain safe in light of the next storm.
Angelica: Best wishes for a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
May you have all the happiness your heart can hold.
Regarding David’s performance tonight at Kendra’s show, what just happened? How does he reinvent a song that was already perfection into something totally new?
David Archuleta’s talent never ceases to amaze me!
In my entire life, I have never been so affected by an artist as I am now.
Betsy…dja…I’m right there with you. Smiling and crying at the same time.
David always cause a stir in every appearance he makes. It was hilarious how the audience at Brooke’s concert went into a tizzy when he emerged from behind. Loved how he rocked Let It Be and how he grooved to Proud Mary.
What made me giggle was the way MJ & David seemed to switch image. You’d think MJ was the one going to a fireside chat. And that simple red shirt that David wore? Whoa! David must be doing more than push-ups! Did you notice his pecs?
That new TBWY – gaaaaaaaaaah. I think he is upping his ante to prepare us for his Ave Maria. Prepare the paddles please.
BTW, am uploading HD files of the ALMA performances w/ 720 x 480 resolution. So they are great for big screen viewing. Files are quite big though — David’s CELD is 176MB already. If anyone is interested, let me know so I’ll share the link once finished.
Be good y’all!
Sigh…. thanks djafan! Soooo pretty. And I love seeing him at a grand piano again!
ronaldsf – have to admit, listening through the headphones was kind of a fluke. Because I come on line after 9-10pm (pacific time), and in order to stay in the “CELD vortex” without disturbing (?????) my husband, well…. Only problem is how difficult it is to quit listening. Kind of an ODD magnifier. A good nights sleep has become a thing of the past. Not complaining, though.
High def version of TBWY tonight, with closeups
Oh. Had to get up early this morning and what do I find when I get here? TBWY reincarnated. The notes!
David’s voice is strong and not road-weary. He needed this break – now he can rest up for the Christmas Tour!
jackryan4DA… think this is real?
twitter from iamtimyap concert is now tentatively scheduled for oct 17 but lets wait for mtv’s final confirmation on the katy perry-david archuleta concert tomorrw
concert organizers mtv told me that net proceeds from katy perry-david archuleta will go to red cross to benefit ondoy victims. Mabuhay MTV!
Morning Everyone!
Santa came last night and left clips of CFTH for all good little girls and boys. Wow.

Dear Santa,
I have always believed in you…thank you on this cold rainy morning for such a wonderful, early Christmas present…
What a gift, what a find…

All fantastic as we know they would be…put on a sweater to help with the chills! Beyond fantastic David…
SB
SB-I should have included a warning. Everyone grab your oxygen tanks and defibrillators before heading to Amazon. No work will be done today….
Oh my!
Quick stop by before class…Christmas with David! I couldn’t be more excited!
Xaris, you are too sweet making my morning so much easier to handle. The CFTH snippets are quite the tease! Can’t wait to get back home and listen to TBWY reincarnated!
Ha ha I wish the “Chesnut” song was on there! LOL!
Betsy – He’s a concert crasher! LOL! Hope he crashes Kayne’s…that dude needs some humbleness in his life!
Good morning, everyone! And what a morning to wake up to! Song snippets, yippee!
Dafan4ever, I would have gladly replaced “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” (not a carol favorite) for the Chestnut Song!
I love “Ave Maria,” “O Holy Night,” and “Riu Riu Chu.”
What are your thoughts on “Melodies of Christmas”? It was much too short for me to judge to be honest.
Oh my… people who know me probably know I am trying to practice the rhythm method.
Call me crazy. I’m not listening until the 13th.
ronald – LOL! You do know that it’s an imperfect method, right? Good luck with that!
“Had to think about work and graduation
But it’s feast or famine, no moderation” …
snippets schmitxzyzxz!!!!!
forgive my over the top exclamation points but if there is one more reason to love David more is this
LATE BREAKING NEWS!!!
Tha Katy Perry-Boys Like Girls Concert slated for this week here in Manila has been postponed.
MTV is moving the event to Oct 17 and it will be Katy Perry AND DAVID ARCHULETA. Proceeds to go to Red Cross for the benefit of Ondoy victims.
Final, final confirmation tomorrow but it has been twittered by Tim Yap, one of the movers of the event
David loves Ma-neeh-la! He really does!!!
{goes to crying now}
JR,so glad to hear you and family are safe. Our prayers are with you all.
Cry a little for us too, we are so happy for you!
hellogorgeous…The song snippet of Melodies of Christmas was too short for me to tell if I like it yet. “Joy To the World” and “O Come All Ye Faithful” are actually my least favorite Christmas songs. That is just me so please don’t be mad. LOL! As you know David can sing anything good, but those 2 are just not my favorite. Charice has a beautiful voice. I can’t wait to hear all of that song. “The Christmas Song” I would love to have heard.
JR…. (((many prayers and hugs)))
David back in Manila!
ronald….the rhythm method….lol
SB…we’re having a tweet fest over Christmas Form the Heart snippets…lol
I love them all…Melodies from Christmas caught my interest..can’t wait to hear the rest of it and of course the rest Ave Maria…
the wait..torture
Gita…thanks for that great TBWY….wow….warnings needed!
Bluesky, Angelica, cutter12, vermeer, refnaf, goboywonder, betsy, ronaldsf, bebereader, davidfanliz, and to all who have sent JR and I the much needed prayers and well wishes for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy : Thank you so much! We appreciate all of it. Please continue to do so as we are expecting more typhoons coming our way. We’re hoping the power of prayer will alleviate us from our troubles in these trying times.
Gita & Xaris,
It was a wonderful surprise to come home to the soul-stirring videos of David reprising TBWY with Kendra and the snippets of the Christmas from the Heart (CFTH) album, after a day of working out ways to get to colleagues who need so much help and assistance due to the devastation of Ondoy. I was so moved with tears of comfort and joy watching and listening to these videos. ALL beautiful snippets, can’t hardly wait for Oct. 12th. David IS Christmas all year long!
And the benefit concert of Katy Perry with David in Manila?!? Wooohooo!!! Topped the night for me! I squealed in delight and called my daughter to show her the link, coz she’s been wanting to watch the postponed Katy Perry concert. Now she will definitely be able to if ever, just because of David, lol! I hope it is all true! Please, please let it be true!! And to think I was puzzled by David not responding to tweets to him about Typhoon Ondoy. He and his people must actually be working out something for the Filipino victims all along! He SO deserves all our love and support! My heart is bursting if this is all true. Please, LET IT BE…
Does anyone know what language Riu Riu Chiu and Ave Maria sang in?
ascphil and jr – I am so excited about this possible benefit concert. He is truly good.
dafan4ever – spanish.
Both are Spanish? I knew one would be, but kept hearing rumors that one song would be in another language. I thought…I know he is good, but is he that good? LOL!
Riu Riu Chiu is an old/traditional Spanish Christmas carol
Check background story and Spanish + English lyrics here:
http://www.traditioninaction.org/religious/p005rpRiuRiu.htm
JR#110, yes he does, doesn’t he? He LOVES us! I’m crying too, with so much joy! Mahal na mahal Ka Namin, David!(wipes tears)
dafan4ever,
Ave Maria is in Latin. Here are the lyrics:
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum,
benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.
Sancta Maria mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.
Amen
Jr4da, Ascphil,
I’ve been saying prayers for all who have been effected by this catastrophe. Please know that we are thinking and praying for all of you and your families.
Knowing David is coming in support for Typhoon Ondoy victims is truly a blessing…He never ceases to amaze with his giving heart!:-)
P.S. Sorry to Angelica, I missed your birthday yesterday! HAPPY belated!:-) My daughter had her 21st yesterday too! (Libra- very compatible with Aries)! Thanks for all your videos and writings about David. I have always loved “A growing Force”!
Sorry, the previous post I sent was the prayer Ave Maria in Latin. The complete lyrics to the classic and well-known Franz Schubert version is as follows:
Ave Maria
(Franz Shubert)
Ave Maria
Gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Maria, gratia plena
Ave, ave dominus
Dominus tecum
Benedicta tu in mulieribus
Et benedictus
Et benedictus fructus ventris
Ventris tuae, Jesus.
Ave Maria
Ave Maria
Mater Dei
Ora pro nobis peccatoribus
Ora pro nobis
Ora, ora pro nobis peccatoribus
Nunc et in hora mortis
Et in hora mortis nostrae
Et in hora mortis nostrae
Et in hora mortis nostrae
Ave Maria
Ooops! Didn’t mean for all of the lyrics to be in bold italics, just the title. Sorry!
Thanks so much, angelofdja, for your prayers! And to emmiegirl, too! You are all so special people, and your sincerity is so appreciated. David really attracts the best people anyone can have the privilege of knowing. Thanks to all!
For those of you who vote….

ANGELICA – A very Happy belated Birthday to you!
My thoughts & prayers are with those near the typhoon.
I want to wish you a very happy belated birthday too, Angelica! Thank you so much for all your beautiful videos which give us so much joy!
My prayers are with the people suffering because of the typhoon.
Have mercy. Have y’all seen David’s latest vlog? He’s nervous and soooo funny.
Poor guy – he’s a bit scared! I remember that I was too!
Hi everybody, I just got into work today and ran across something I had to share with you all. Currently my work his holding a silent auction for the United Way and as I was looking over various item,I came across one item that surprised me.
Up for bid: A “Romantic Evening” with David Archuleta and rentals for two motorcycles. There was a cute picture of David on a motorcycle and also an autographed photo of him.
The romantic part made me laugh considering this was an auction at work. So far, there are 2 bids, with a man with the top bid. I wonder if he’s trying to get it for his daughter.
Oh my. David’s latest tweet…
http://twitpic.com/jn07a
LOL!!!
When I got my wisdom teeth pulled, I was put under. Not sure David is… Hmm…
I was kind of mentally out of it for a few hours and my entire jaw area was completely numb, and a friend took me home to make sure nothing wacky happened. We sat there watching “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” for a while, and as I stood to get up a whole bunch of blood poured out of mouth and onto my clothing.
I supposed I should not tweet that to David right now!
Ronaldsf – Don’t share any horror stories with David please! He’s already nervous. Poor guy. The next few days are not going to be fun, and knowing him, he may just share the whole thing with us lol!
The next few days?? Wow, my torment lasted only several hours. My friends were more freaked out than I was. They recoiled in horror and I was very blase.
I actually thought it was pretty cool, to be in another state of mind. I think that’s going to be David’s reaction! lol
“1 down, 3 to go.”
He’s awake during this whole process! Ohmygosh!
And he was so considerate despite all of this that he included correct punctuation. LOL!
(ETA: Actually he forgot the comma, but still!)
There must be someone else in the room tweeting for him. Perhaps the dentist’s assistant. I refuse to accept that he is even MORE talented.
David! Why are you so perfect?!
I truly believe that the reality of the medical procedure and the apprehension for the outcome felt by David should bring us all back to a little reality on what is important, what standard of morals exists in our lives. David has had to give us this reality check and perhaps from now on we will remember what is impotant, private and precious in each of our lives including David’s.
I wish you well David during your recovery and just simply take care. I know what he gives us every day, but what have we possibly given back to him?
SB
SB
You are doing that thing again……..
Abrra loves SB
Dear Abrra…and I have my reasons for doing it that way…sometime I will tell you all about it…not too mysterious though…
SB finds Abrra so funny!!!
SB
You sure have a strange way. Must be the cold winters?
Abrra
Wisdom teeth hmmmm morals hmmm private hmmm
NOPE I am clueless.
Abrra
Abrra…you are pushing me to tell…no not the cold winters but trying to look at what is good. I tend to tell it exactly the way that it is and I can’t do that so I dance around the subject…If I said what I deeply felt then I would probably have to head for the hills…I am no jackass…haha.
SB
SB #136 “I know what he gives us every day, but what have we possibly given back to him?”
Oh, SB. I think David’s fans give a lot back to him in their way. I don’t mean just the tangibles, like purchasing CDs and concert tickets, or voting, requesting, and promoting him via Youtube, etc. The ancients Greeks have an interesting word, “charis”, which can be applied to either one who gives or receives. When applied to the giver, charis means grace, graciousness, kindness, or thoughtfulness on the part of the giver. It implies a special gift, like a mentor sharing his gift of knowledge with a student, or perhaps a certain young man who shares his enormous talent and love of music? When applied to the one receiving the gift, charis implies extreme thankfulness for the gift on the part of recipient.
Something Rascal wrote long ago reminded me of this concept. I tend to think by now David knows how thankful his fans are for what he shares with us, and I think as a group we manage to reflect back to him some of the joy we receive from him. I also think that those who write to him telling him how he has touched their lives are giving back to him.
I chose charis (spelled with an x to look more like the Greek) as my screen name to remind myself that David shares his gift with joy, grace, and thoughtfulness. I am extremely thankful and try to give back however I can. Please don’t feel that you don’t give back to David–hugs!
xaris…All that you say is so true.
But, unfortunately we also give him moments of grief and sadness that can undo all else…
SB
“But, unfortunately we also give him moments of grief and sadness that can undo all else…”
Hopefully they are just moments and not extended periods of time. I suppose I am an optimist after all, for I refuse to believe those moments can overshadow all the good.
On a lighter note, I just noticed on FOD that CFTH will be available for download at Amazon on October 9th. I am expecting to expire later that day after listening to Ave Maria.

the loop with all you lucky folks who heard
David live!!!
I may be able to hook you up . I do not sell them…….. send your email thru contact page?
Abrra
I got emails from ILAA too for the two concerts I’m going to! Was a little surprised! I guess it was a good way to REMIND the VIP’s that after tomorrow there will be no refunds. haha! JUST KIDDING! But I would not be at all surprised if we get a tour schedule in a very short time
I just wish they would hurry up! My sis & I gotta make plans!
I’ve been listening to the snippets over & over! Why do they tease us this way?
Thoughts & prayers to all who are suffering the ravages and devastation from the floods in the Philippines. Saying a special prayer for good news tomorrow about a “special concert” by a very special man!
Good night all, and for David..
Dear lord,
Please take care of David.
SENDING YOU WARM THOUGHTS & SPECIAL PRAYERS IN HOPES THAT YOU’RE HAVING AS LITTLE PAIN AS POSSIBLE, AND YOUR RECOVERY FROM THE AFFECTS OF YOUR TEETH EXTRACTIONS IS QUICK!
Contigo siempre en la distancia, con amor!

“I’ve been listening to the snippets over & over! Why do they tease us this way?”
I am boycotting snippets. There are few surprises left in my life, so I will be patient. Last time I heard snippets I was disappointed. Then happy that the actual songs turned out wonderful. So much so that they have sustained me through several incarnations on various live tour performances.
I will wait.

Not the way to get on my good side. I am also the QUEEN of typos. Keep it up and you will get the *WHIP* and the Hammer BAM!
Abrra /wink
Xaris, happy not to have been handed her head on a platter by Queen Abrra with 2 r’s 1 a, takes lowly self off to bed, consoled only by CFTH snippets on repeat.
Best wishes to all, especially David for a speedy recovery.
dearest SB, have I told you lately that I love you? I really do!
JR, ascphil – though still processing the info on the storms, my prayers are with you and fellow pinoys. Hope the David/Katy Perry comes to fruition.
xaris#142 – like David, you have a big heart. “I chose charis (spelled with an x to look more like the Greek) as my screen name to remind myself that David shares his gift with joy, grace, and thoughtfulness. I am extremely thankful and try to give back however I can. Please don’t feel that you don’t give back to David–hugs!”
Also appreciate your non judgemental comments and for those feeling remorse about prior post…. “Hopefully they are just moments and not extended periods of time. I suppose I am an optimist after all, for I refuse to believe those moments can overshadow all the good.”
Sometimes it’s difficult to see the forest through the trees….
JR#92 – on those HD files of CELD you were uploading for big screen viewing – are they safe to watch on a 24″ LCD? If so, I would be interested in that file as I am still stuck in the “CELD vortex”. Took brief break to listen to TBWY (88Aladdin) & xmas snippets. Ave Maria, oh my! Snippets are teasers, though. Kind of leave you wanting more (keep hitting that play button – same lil snippet). Wish I was as disciplined as ronaldsf & abrra…..
IT IS CONFIRMED: David’s Manila visit on Oct 17 to pair with Katy Perry for a charity concert is on! He is coming! (sniff, sniff)
What is now pending is Katy’s availability. Although we of course will take David solo anytime, this is still Katy’s concert… so let’s hope she can get her affairs in order.
Dear Louise aka lettucegirl who still in Missouri, honey will you be back by then?

Thanks! Funny you mention it……….
I am having “issues” with my music files. Somehow Zune & ITunes had a war. When I wiped out my Zune player, all the mp3′s jumped over to ITunes. As a result of my ineptness, the file I use to create the Summer Tour is missing some songs. I am about ready to commit to ITunes and toss the Zune! I think I can recreate the files.
Just need P A T I E N C E!
Abrra
abrra#180 – on the war between the Zune & ITunes, did you change your default player setting? I used to use ITunes as my default player but when I went to play back a file I downloaded from other than ITunes, I couldn’t. Always got a prompt “!” saying they could not locate the file. Luckily, I put it in a playlist (on my ipods) & am careful not to delete that one playlist, as it would be gone forever. Maybe it’s just me but ITunes has too many restrictions. I have over 1500 videos in my Zune account. If that ever disappeared, I would die. I have started to copy on to DVD’s.
Also, was wondering if you could recommend a program that would enable me to copy videos from youTube. There are so many out there but I’m afraid one of them might be a virus or not protected from viruses. I’m not sure if it was you, but someone suggested youTube catcher. It didn’t transfer HD copies – was inferior to file2HD. Unfortunately, that one is down – only makes flv copies.
#181
I told you about A TubeCatcher. It has worked safely for me. There is a TOOLS menu. Open that and look near the bottom for Enable HD. You must reset this feature if you close out the program, so be sure to check that. One of the best features is that you can convert YT videos to other formats such as mp3 or an variety of video formats. I often convert videos to mp4 to add my “home made” videos to my IPhone.
http://atube-catcher.dsnetwb.com/get-video-software-windows-home/content/banco-datos-Welcome-Home-Page.html?seguro=1&credITO=forEX-tern&auto=1
I also use this sometimes:
http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/free-dvd-video-software.htm
Its is a free suite of conversion programs. Its safe. I have had no issues with it.
As far as default player, I have changed it from Media player to RealPlayer. I know not to let ITunes have priority. Some how I grabbed the mp3′s. I love my ZUNE, but the software is a nightmare. Even if you uninstall, you still have a “collection” list from previous set up. I will learn to work arounf it. They gave instructions how to “clean” uninstall, but it didn’t work. I am ok with what I have now. I just need about a day to reorganize.

David had a checkup at the dentist’s five or six hour ago. I hope all’s well. Havid four (!) teeth pulled is no small matter. David had to be in pain once the numbing medication started to wear off.
Hope he’s doing OK.
