David Archuleta: Away & BEGIN.s Charting
More Reasons to Smile!
BEGIN
#28 Billboard 200
#5 Top Independent Albums
#3 Top Internet Albums
11,000 1st week sales
Hollywood Reporter says:
Signed to RCA after his success on Idol, Archuleta is now on the independent Highway Records imprint, owned by Deseret Book, the publishing arm of the LDS church. That qualifies Begin. to appear on Billboard’s Top Independent Chart, where it debuts at No. 5. The album makes an even higher bow on the Top Internet Albums chart, entering at No. 3. That equals Archuleta’s previous highest peak on this survey, when his self-titled debut album entered at No. 3 in 2008.
BEGIN. is the fifth album by Archuleta to appear on The Billboard 200. He has had one album debut on the album chart every year since 2008. Here is a summary of how he’s fared on this survey: David Archuleta, peaked at No. 2 (2008); Christmas from the Heart, No. 30 (2009); The Other Side of Down, No. 13 (2010); Glad Christmas Tidings, No. 179 (2011) [Mormon Tabernacle Choir/Orchestra At Temple Square Feat. David Archuleta With Michael York]; Begin., No 28 (2012).
Congrats David! Congrats Kari & Team David!

ps: @IdolsNOW tweets about David!
ps2: And in our local shores, BEGIN. is the #2 digital album and “Everybody Hurts” gets a HOT stamp!

Impressive showing of BEGIN given that we have
- the artist in absentia
- it is a cover album
- an indie effort considering David has no label
- promo is at best, peninsular
I hope Highway Records will find a way to distribute the CD more, esp in outlets such as Walmart and the likes.
Fantastic! Pretty amazing, actually. Go, David! Go, Archies!

Loving all the Billboard buzz. Barnes and Noble did get a few more CD’s in and the Mgr loves the album cover and picture. He says it is so much better than most that come out these days.
A little more Promo and they did have it displayed pretty well. Got 2 more, and told David’s story plus told him I would plug the store on the Fan Sites
)) I have no shame
Wal Mart still didn’t have more. Hope like you JR that distribution picks up.
I also got refunded by Wal Mart on line the amount above $10.00 that I pay for pre orders since the CD is selling for $10.00 in Stores now
)
Way to go Heidi w/ Barnes & Noble!
I don’t understand why there is not enuff CD in stores. Is it because Highway Records didn’t expect the CD to sell?
Not sure the reason, but suspect they weren’t sure what to expect and Managers say that Online is so popular that they are not sure how to stock. I’m hoping that more will start showing up now that the initial sales were respectable.:))
Love how Astroplus are having great promotion.

Last February, I had a project with my previous job that gave me the chance to meet David Archuleta. It was just a simple coverage interview that will only need two to three staff.
But, I requested for five all access passes. Total of six actually, (including our driver) for a simple production. Why?
Me (of course, I’m heading the project)
Carlo, my brother (he’s a big fan, as a production assistant)
Jojo, my travel buddy (as our production assistant also, plus we get to “date”-ish during the fireworks display)
Maricar, our then-OJT (to add hours to her OJT work, and she’s a big fan too)
Tolits, our camera guy (for the well, camera)

We asked permission from his handler if we could get a group picture with David and when she said yes, the two big fans decided where to position themselves. Lo and behold, the final output:
So they can crop it and get to post the cropped photo as their profile picture in Facebook. Very smart!

That night, I told my mom about the project and how we were able to take a photo with my brother’s strategic position when it hit me – MY MOM WAS A BIG FAN OF DAVID ARCHULETA. His season with American Idol is I think the ONLY season she ever watched. She adores him because he’s a very humble person. And even though he is the youngest among the finalists, my mom thinks he is far better than everyone. I felt really bad because she asked for the pictures and just said “Sayang!”
Oh well. Sorry mother, I forgot.

“American Idol on the Charts: Kelly Clarkson Turns on the ‘Dark’
Plus: David Archuleta proves it’s not impossible to chart while on a Mormon mission.
…
When season seven runner-up David Archuleta announced last December that he was devoting the next two years of his life to a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, it was presumed there would be no music from the Idol finalist until he returned home in 2014. So it may be a surprise that Archuleta’s latest album debuts on The Billboard 200 this week at No. 28.
Begin. is a 10-song collection of covers and one original, “Broken,” co-written by Archuleta. The remakes include R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush’s “Don’t Give Up” and Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors.” Archuleta recorded the album before starting his mission in South America.

Archuleta isn’t the only season seven contestant with a Billboard chart debut this week. It’s been one year and four months since a single by Jason Castro has appeared on one of the magazine’s surveys. “You Are” was a Christian hit in the spring of 2011. Castro is back with a new song for the same market: “Only a Mountain” makes a lofty entrance on the Christian Digital Songs chart at No. 12. The single is the title track from Castro’s sophomore album, which has a release date of Jan. 15, 2013. First, there will be a five-track EP, Starting Line, available Aug. 28 through Walmart and online retailers.

Just to put David’s sales in perspective, John Mayer released an EP that showed at #17 on the charts, with 15,000 sold. Sales are so low for most releases that David’s 11,000 doesn’t seem that low to me now. Just an FYI.
So true Marlie. The whole business equation of the music industry has really back-flipped. If known artists and celebrities are doing that low, how would lesser known artists or newbies fare. It’s a real tough business re-written by technology.
I hope that when David returns, his team would have decided on a better platform and working business model so David can do what he loves to do for a long time, if not a lifetime.
Some offers may be waiting for him… But it’s up to him if he will be up for the challenge.

Nice find, JR. That is my favorite song on the album. Don’t Give Up. I don’t know why, but it just grabs me and won’t let go.
OK, here is the HD version of the Mormon Times feat on DA & Libbie Linton
Thanks for the HD version!! She seems like a nice gal and is quite talented. She seems Honored and I’m glad she mentioned the depth of emotion and the messages that were important for David and his fans.
Even though it was a very short piece, Libbie got some very important points across

http://twitpic.com/aluv0f Hey @DavidArchie fans, check out out the #iTunes cover of BEGIN. Nice!
I apologize for being “AWOL” a bit. I’m the proverbial “lurker”.
I have received my hard copy of BEGIN. This album is a gem.
There are so many songs that speak to me. I do not have a favorite, per se. For me to declare a favorite would, in some way in my mind, diminish the power of the others. But, one that resonates with me, right now, today, in my life, is Don’t Give Up. I offer no further explanation, other than, we must never relinquish what we know is true.
I think of the many sacrifices that David must have had to make in order to make all the music that he has made. Six albums!
The sheer willpower to continue to make his music; when he just “wanted to sing” and was getting comfortable with the idea that people wanting to hear him sing, and in less than ideal corporate (business) circumstances, David has sent a message to all that will hear him, a “coup d’ etat”, on his return to active duty. “I will continue to express myself through music.”
Long, live, David. (Upon his return, the crowd cheers with great anticipation.)
Hey RALPH! Am so glad to “see” and I could not agree more, BEGIN. is indeed a gem!
THIS:
